Former Somali president Mohamed Egal was loved by many?

Postby Waachis » Wed Mar 13, 2019 9:26 pm

'Accordingly, in February 1968, Egal was invited to visit Washington. In his briefing notes for the forthcoming visit, Edward Hamilton of the NSC reflected that Egal was ''the nicest surprise to come along in African affairs since independence became the rule rather than the exception.''
The State Department briefing paper on Egal's visit contended that he had ''completely reversed Somalia's policies in the last 9 months,'' turning his back on Somali irredentism and seeking ''peace and cooperation with neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia. He is pushing for greater economic development at the military's expense'' as well as emphasizing a policy of non-alignment in the Cold War. Thus, while not willing to risk the US-Ethiopian relationship, the Johnson administration made their support for Egal's approach very clear.
At a formal State Department lunch honoring the prime minister, Rusk praised the Somali leader, asserting that ''he strives for peace, not war; cooperation, not hostility and economic progress, not stagnation.''
An editorial in the New York Times was just as laudatory:

having successfully come to terms with Kenya, Ethiopia and France, Premier Mohamed Egal of Somalia has created around the Horn of Africa an aura of peace that looks brighter than anything the area has known in the 8 years Somalia has been independent.''

He was a sell out coon. I'm happy Siad Barre took over. The golden age of Somalia under the revolution. This fool would've appeased our enemies. Muse Bixi is the legacy of Cigaal's aspiration. A Ethiopian dog. A pet domesticated. Fuck that

Galla boy

Egal was a PM under Adan Abdulle Osman, Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke and Major General Mohamed Siad Barre.
He was Barre loyalist who imprisoned him more than 11 times.

Cigaal was true Somali mationalist unlike the walaneeyn and that AwAmxaaro. He built Somaliland institutions from the Army to our currency.May Allah forgive his sins and grant him Firdaws. He was the best politician the Isaaq nation has produced and will always be beloved by his people. There was no greater politician in the Somali peninsula compared to him

I was told that egal was a good guy by someone, so I said wow ....i never read about him or his policies. Let me check it out.
I like that he preferred peace over war too.
I don't care for clans but actions, words, policies, etc, so I judge politicians based on that

Egal is amongst the few men in the world who single handedly established a nation out of nothing. In 1993 when he came to Somaliland we had nothing , within 4 years he established Everything we have today and no one helped him financially or militarily .

What he did was very simple , he asked our people , any man who brings his gun or other heavy weapons will be rewarded . Clans competed to hand over their heavy weapons to the government. And the government used them as a national army. Those who came first were given Senior positions. Our clan had several technicals and tanks we looted from the dictator government, we give our weapons to egal with hundred men , all he did is is to pay us , to defend our government with our own weapons. This how he managed to build the army.

How did he managed to raise funds ? Using this multiclan army , he simply crashed everyone who don't pay tax , he started from his own clan who were in control of berbera Port. And told them that they will be fked up if they don't share a percentage of the revenues with his government . And they did it .

properly the dumbest somali politician ever

he cared more about drinking alcahol then governing, he was colonial trained administrator, he is part of neo colonial african leaders that west wanted to use against the soviets

the marexan knew his weakness, the entire family have no honour even betrayed the snm while he sat on our lap, while we were molesting his wife adna

the great marexaan industrialist xoosh kibrey stated once that, when the northerners came to the south all the brought was prostitution, qaad and alcahol and they spend their time in hotel rooms and forgot to negotiate with southern cut throat politicians (egal was the head of that delegation)

if somaliland independence that idot miss calculated and unilaterally declared independencea and he was the cause of inter isaaq war, which has not been resolved hence the term jeegaan (HA,HJ vs HY)

if you write about egal its 90 percent about his Avant-garde lifestyle, homosexuality included with a guy called jeffrey hudson, that he met during talks in london late 1950s to prepare for british somaliland independence

egal died in south africa milatery hospital due to AIDS like melez zanawi

A Libertine in a Puritan Islamic pastoral culture. He was seen as a outsider to Somalinimo. Funny, that tradition continues today with his lineal successor, Ina Bixi who grovels at the feet of Christians and our worse enemies at that.
