this was likely once the UAE abandoned the Saudis in Yemen? The Emiratis can't afford to confront Iran at all

Somaliland never talked about the base. The president only stated that civilian cargoes will use the airport.

djibouti has no clout in somaliland though sahal. the emirates are a bigger player and they are no longer taking part in the yemen war hence why a military base in JSL is not necessaryi heard it has to do with biixi visit to djibouti.

So this was a base that would house UAE troops? I am a little confused. Isn't it a good thing that it did not happen? Whatever money the government in Hargaisa would get would probably be minimal and even then there is a very good chance it used to build hotels and villas by those in power and would never reach the average person.

This is the second time you've been right sxb. Yes, the Saudis and Emiratis alliance is severely broken. Farmaajo who is close with King Salman and the Saudis sees this as an advantage. Djibouti is also close with the Saudis and hate the Emiratis as well. The Saudis with their Red Sea idea similar to GCC is drawing closer to Somalia and always preferred centralized govt instead of secessionist agenda pushed by the UAE. They promised Bixi the funds to build Berbera if he leaves UAE and the SFG will sign off on it. Thus, taking the legal limbo away from it Bixi signed away the "madaxbanani" of Somaliland

sxb i dont know the djiboutians reasons but the main obstacle for this militart base is that it will violate the arms embargo on somalia and SL is not yet a recognized country therefore its better to change it to an airline hub. djibouti may have suggested this to biixi.Ustad Sahal,i heard it has to do with biixi visit to djibouti.
