The first step to Somali Reconciliation is for all parties to accept that Open Rebellion was not the way foward.

Somalis are human
We get things wrong.
Its better to know when you were wrong than be open and arrogant.

It was impossible to create a Somali front to defeat afweyne simply because afweyne was using tribalism to stay in power he used his clan in top position defense the army all important positions. And only different tribes can trust each other. There were basically little or no daarood opposed to afweyne. Apart from mj from 1979 till 1984 ssdf. The first daarood to oppose afweyne were ogaden that came only after afweyne signed kilil 5 to Ethiopia. SNM and SSDF used the same radio. But in principle and Ideology we diiffert with them. The hawiye were a sleep through out the early 1980s only after 1986 they started holding conferences. These rebel movement were formed on different ideals and times. You have to put it in the right context. If it was up to you one man show for 2 decades is normal he would ruled another decade if he was not removed. He would probably installed maslax his son.

Did you know that Itay offered asylum to MSB? The Italian ambassador pleaded with him to step down and felt he had a commitment after a marathon session of talks at VS. the next day MSbs inner circle talks him out of it stating that the army can beat back his rebels. Over the next few weeks, MSB and his government went on a campaign of repression killing prominent nonDaroods, conducting executions, shelling of predominately Hawiye suburbs even as the USC was not even in the city. This deeply angered the Hawiye who when they had the chance after the USC rolled into town sought revenge.

Even after being deposed MSB did not go into exile and regrouped in the South where he planned for his comeback. He waged a war that was supported by Kenya. The Kenyan Army Chief Gen Mohamud provided manpower and resources.

If he left quietly into exile like Mengistu, the pressure would have been on the rebels to form a government of national unity. He could have claimed he left the country in peace and it was up to the rebels to lead.

Manifesto in my opinion were the last and final chance for a broad based national reconciliation. They represented the civil leaders from all qabiil who penned a letter calling for change.

I am not stating that USC were blameless and angels. Caydiid made his mistakes as did Ali Mahdi. But these two would have never risen to prominence if MSB had not repressed the opposition.

khalid on one hand you are criticizing the government for fighting the rebels and on the other hand you are saying that it was impossible for the rebel groups to unite as one and assign one leader.

so my question to you is which rebel group does the government negotiate with? which rebel group does the government give concessions to? which rebel leader replaces president siyad barre and sits on villa Somalia?

do you understand where i am coming from, you have not given the government any choice but to fight the rebels.

The USC-SNM-SPM had a tripartite working body. If MSB was serious, he would have made concessions and asked for foreign mediation with the rebel groups. The Italians offered mediation. The rebel groups would have faced pressure to come to the table.

He instead held on and became more oppressive. He believed in that he came to power by the gun and would only leave by the gun.

Why do you insist on teaching these Mx youths the history of their Abo's oppression and how he screwed Somalia up, they view you as an old mad-man enemy HAG that babbles nonsensical sh1t.

They dont care about all that of what you wrote, what they care about is how they can get back their lost Booli-qaran that USC of your 90's era stopped from them.

These kids your preaching about the faults Siade barre had are all rotten to the core just like their fathers were rotten but thankfully for them they were cleansed by the USC Mujaahidiin.

USC lost the civil war. MX is back on the throne. The qiiro for the Kacaan is at its highest.

This time we will do Booli Qaran on a much higher level. This time we use all the resources to our advantage. Fuck everybody else. The throne belongs to us.

abdiwahab, my question is what happened? siyad barre was defeated over 28 years ago by 1993 siad barre did not have an army left in Somalia, what stopped the rebels from forming a government? what stopped the rebels from negotiating and compromising?

sxb at one point you have to stop looking at siyad barre, he was defeated the rebels won. what happened to the USC-SNM-SPM tripartite.

sxb i don't fault anyone for fighting the government, i am sure they had their reasons all i am saying is it was doomed from the beginning. there wasn't a real plan on what do when government falls. None of the faction leader looked at the greater good none of them compromised they had their eye on the chair.

Abdiwahab252,

Bro the problem with your soliloquy is it is a hypothetical. There is literally no way to prove or disprove your theory. Yes I agree the Gov was no longer a real Gov in the late 80s and there was a need fir change. What is also fact though is a capital city was taken back to the stone age after MSB left. What followed was a warlord era where the inmates literally ran the asylum, or at least what was left of it.

The most dangerous part of your theory in putting that on MSB AUN is it advocates excuse making, lack of accountability, and a overall sense of just becoming a victim of your situation. Bottom line is these imprisoned Manifesto heros and revolutionaries as you refer to them as were surely out of jail after MSB AUN left. What was left of them could have easily came together and formed a Gov. Don’t feel like having a Government? Fine, don’t use Tanks, heavy artillery in the middle of the Capital city.

You seem to not understand the abuse and trauma that MSB inflicted on the country. He effectively set the conditions for the collapse of the state. MSB apologists paint the image of a nirvana during MSB rule. A traumatized nation like Somalia and Iraq that were ruled by brutal dictators find it hard to reconstitute.

I didn’t let the USC off the hook but you surely must acknowledge the barbarity of the MSB regime. The worst legacy of MSB is that every man with Presidential ambitions wants to emulate him.
