Mogadishu and Shabaab

One of the biggest ceebs of this century is the biggest, baddest, and strongest qabiil in Somalia, namely the hawiye, is occupied by shabaab. Most of shabaab members are from minority tribes that the hawiye terrorized in the past. They are mostly from Rahanwein, jareer, dir, isaaq, etc.

Shabaab pretty much has a strong hold on Mogadishu and the surrounding regions. This shows the disunity and chaos within these communities. Shabaab is only successful in places where there is a lot of suspicious, mistrust, and animosity.

Its amazing to think that minority tribes are holding bigger tribes hostage in their own homes, degaans, and towns. For example, shabaab is taxing the hell out of Mogadishu and no one dares to refuse it. Besides the government, people are responsible for their safety and reporting and coordinating with the local authorities. No one has said lets stop these minorities messing up our city and making us extinct.

That is why i believe USC have in the grand scheme of things failed their constituency by toppling Siyad Barre. What did they get in exchange? Infighting between themselves, Amisom all over their lands, and Shabaab minority groups terrorizing them. To make things worse, they emigrated with the people they chased out of Mogadishu  That tells you they had no plan. They couldn't even manage looted properties and positions

I feel sorry for Mogadishu, its a sad story. Every politician is looking out for himself and to benefit of the misery of hawiye children so they can build real estate in Kenya, Turkey, UAE.

With the pace things are i don't know if Shabaab can ever be minimized or if the state can function w/o Amisom, making Mogadishu and by extension Somalia a trusteeship territory under the care of UN, or worse, broken up and taken by neighboring countries. We are in this position thanks to a major tribe not being able to unite to eradicate shabaab from Mogadishu and surrounding regions.

Django,

I think your obsession with one qabiil is beyond repair, i neither have the meds nor the time to fix it. This discussion is not about MX or Farmaajo but mainly about the inability of Mogadishu to defeat terrorists that are killing their own kids on broad day light.

That’s a big accusation to be making. Have you got any evidence or did you count them yourself?

I listen to court cases and trace the locations of terrorist camps inside Somalia and most of the foot soldiers are indeed minorities. Isaaq are mostly the leaders of the movement in different sectors. This also includes .5 within major tribes like murursade, etc. So its mostly people that lost everything and everyone to the recent civil war who are out there with vengeance and they seem to have a nice place in the divided communities of Mogadishu and made it their home of destruction.

Some are actively working with alshabaab so they can undermine the government just because they want to keep some looted properties. Its this thinking that allowed shabaab to thrive and survive in Mogadishu but not other places.
