Kenyan MPs’ trip to Somalia amid tension near Mandera border

Sunday March 1, 2020

Eight Members of Parliament from Wajir and Mandera counties flew to Somalia for an unclear mission in the wake of tension between Jubaland and Somali National Army troops near Mandera border.

The eight were cleared for departure to Mogadishu aboard Salaamair Air Express Flight WU-751 on Saturday at around 11 am.

Officials said the leaders do not represent the Government of Kenya nor are they emissaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In Mogadishu, they met the Somali National Intelligence Agency (NISA) officials for a brief amid claims Somalia is lobbying them to push Kenya to stop supporting Jubaland leadership led by Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe.
The politicians are sympathetic to Somali clan politics and have been involved in direct talks with the Somali Government.

There has been growing tension near the Kenyan border in Mandera following reports the SNA is amassing troops ahead of planned clashes. Jubaland security too says they are ready to defend their territories.

The neighbouring country is accusing Kenya of harbouring Jubaland security minister, Abdirashid Janan Hassan Abdinur, currently a fugitive of the law.
Janan orchestrated his escape from a Mogadishu prison on January 28, 2020, after almost five months in incarceration following his arrest on August 31, 2019, and made his way to the border town of Mandera.

N&N did what HSM and Sharif Ahmed failed to do: build networks with the Somali speaking Kenyans. For example HSM had an opportunity to mediate between the warring Degodie and Garre by setting up reconciliation meetings. This would have been an opportunity to garner goodwill.

It’s fake news that they met with NISA. This was a people to people engagement for Somali speaking Kenyans to better understand what is going in Somalia. As MPs of border communities they need to engage with their partners across the border.

Invitations should be extended to MPS from Lamu. Perhaps the SFG can help play a constructive role in ending the rebellion in Lamu county by groups allied the Kenyan opposition group MRC.

Reer baadiye N&N fucked up all the work done yesterday by Abukar Baale. While FM and the mission to the UN were accusing of Kenya for interference Fahad yasin was receiving Degodia garre and Ajuran kenyan mps in Mogadishu

They came to Xamar to meet President Farmaajo, which they did. He told them the reality in hand. I welcome Farmaajo for inviting them. NFD is important just like how Jubaland is important. Kenya should realise that Somalia is no longer their piece of cake. Jubaland belongs to Somalia and if Kenya wants to deal with Somalia they should directly deal it with the federal government of Somalia.

Murulle, Degodiye and Garre know they cannot live in peace until Kenya stops its interference in Jubaland. We are Somalis at the end of the day.

Once again, good job N&N!

Sahal, you and that MP are both reer baadiye.

The world doesn't work a long childish rationalizations like

Someone meets someone in their home = someone occupying their neighbor's front yard

Finally, you have a really disgraceful "dhaqan."

When Somalis say dhaqan "inan gumeed" despite the literal translation, what they really mean is the petty, small, insecure dhaqan/dabeecad you display.

Some Xawaadle somone baa habeen hore two nights ago ka dagay hebel...and some conjuncture linking to Dhusamareeb disarmamament...in a context irrelevant to clan.

Now some Xawaadle someone baa warqad aqriyey...and some conjuncture giving credit of policy to someone for the simple fact they are the messanger...in a context irrelevant to clan.

And mind you I am not even saying Baale is "just" a messenger.

I just think dabeecadada exposes kalsoni yari which is embarrassing.

Abti, even if a Xwaadle general or a Xawaadle ambassador carried out a state action....they did it for their state. Full stop.

one would think you learned your lesson when it was your own Xawaadle commander who overruled your Ugaas and elders and said if the GOVERNMENT ORDER is not accepted, he would resign.

Uhuru gave somali mps from NFD 7 days to sort out the al shabaab issue and Uhuru said do whatever it takes to achieve this.

Here is one of the mps being interviewed by universal tv saying that uhuru have them the authority to go to somalia.

Nomad,

With or without uhuru, these MPs have every right to visit Farmaajo. Uhuru used to call our MPs to his office, and why cant Farmaajo do the same? Kudos to Farmaajo.

I hope Farmaajo keeps dividings Kenya. Finally Kenya can have their own taste of their medicine. Did you see how their media went mad. Lmao

Read every single declassified assessment on NEP

Garre, Murule, and Degoodiye ARE MAREHAN'S NEAR ABROAD.

Marehan is always participatory of Mandera equations.

Since 2005, Marehan have enjoyed absolute peace and warm relationship with Garre (Ceel-waaq Somalia benefited the most as the biggest trading center on Kenya border with Somalia after Beled-Xaawo)

Since 2011, Marehan has enjoyed the warmest of relationships with Degoodiye with mutually supported deal in Suftu in Liban

Since 1998, Marehan and Murule have had a mutual pact for aid and security (any Murule in need in Somalia shall go to Marehan and any Marehan in NEP in need of aid shall go to Murule)...since the agreement with Garre, the pact with Murule became a little neglected but recently Marehan and Murule recemented their pact based more on economics and less about confronting Garre (the original treaty pretty much formed from anytime Garre wars with Murule, Marehan must come to Murule's aid in exchange for Murule protecting Marehan trade in NFD/NEP from Garre marauding)

The Mandera clans are MAREHAN'S NEAR ABROAD. The more Somalia develops and trade flourishes the more Marehan was going to get closer to them so might as well start now

They do have every right to go to Mogadishu, but people are trying to paint a false narrative here that kenya is not interfering in internal somali politics.

Somalia is in the process of kicking kenya out, which is our number one priority at the moment. So we must set the record straight.

The media is trying to create a red herring that Somalia is doing the same thing. I would have simply said that these MPs were meeting fellow MPs from across the border. Nothing more than that

I get where you both coming from, Nomad and Abdiwahab.

But still you cant compare MPs visiting Mogadishu, to Kenyan blatant intereference. And to be frankly honest, Somalia has been quiet for awhile and Kenyan still didnt respect us. Now Somalia can play the same game, it has to put its foot down either way. We cant keep acting like a bullied girl. Either go get fucked or do the f-king. About time Somalia did some f-king. Fuck protocol, sometimes it is good to take risk.

Besides, international community know already what Kenya has been doing and they kept quiet themselves.

Taking a risk would be to meet true opposition of Kenyatta and host them for talks for weeks. This would get under Uhurus skin. It would be even better if they were not Somali speaking Kenyans

Get your border under control. Then you can talk about someone doing blatant interference. Kenyan is going the job the federal government was supposed to do. Secure the border and seas from bandits, and alshaab causing mayhem, crossing through the Mandera border and kidnapping and killing doctors, teachers and tourists that are there to help these poor ppl, if Somalia can’t get Gedo and other border towns under control and bring the bandits to justice, Kenya will get in to defend its self and secure the border. These idiots were crying last time Kenya said they gonna build the wall, now they want Kenya out because they feel the heat and want to save their trouble makers and bring back lawlessness.
And you can’t kick off Kenya because they host 2 million Somali refugees in Dadaab camps, is the Farmaajo and his government component enough to resettle take care of these ppl and build schools and jobs ?
No, then sit you ass down and get real
