President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday agreed to send a delegation of security chiefs to meet his Somali counterpart Mohamed Farmaajo, in a move that signals a climbdown in tensions between the two countries over an alleged border intrusion.

It was reported that the FGS forces made a significant move into Kenya, forcing the Kenya Defence Forces to advise the Jubbaland forces to pull back.

Diplomatic faux pas.

Notice this is not the Foreign Minister and this is not a routine bilateral visit.

This is the Minister of Interior functioning as a personal envoy for his Head of State to resolve a conflict. That it is the Minister of Interior with direct oversight over the issue, just below the Head of State, makes him a Principal whose personhood sent is a strong symbol of importance placed in this matter by the engaging party.

The receiving Party would be careless, at best, if not inflammatory to do something that would take any focus away from the message, never mind allowing something innocuous like reception a part of the story.

You know diplomacy; better to do too much than too little. You can always slowly pull back later, but too little and the offense it causes is hard to overcome.
