تدور تكهنات بان إدارة الرئيس فرماجو تسعى للتمديد لعامين لتنظيم انتخابات عامة رئاسية وتشريعية تسدل الستار على الانتخابات غير المباشرة والتي تشبه الاختيار أكثر من الانتخاب ؛ ومع تفشي جائحة كورونا زادت هذه التكهنات في تأجيل الانتخابات عن موعدها وتمديد التفويض لنحو عام أو عامين، قانون الانتخابات الوطني ينصّ على فكرة التّمديد حال تعذّر إجراء الإنتخابات القادمة تحت ظروف قاهرة؛وفشل اللجنة الوطنية المستقلة للانتخابات في تحديد موعد الانتخابات؛ وعندها يحق لمجلسي البرلمان الفيدرالي اتخاذ قرار التأجيل والتمديد بناء على تلك المعطيات.
من الطّبيعيّ أن تُولّد هذه الفقرة إنزعاج الكثير من السّياسيّين الّذين كما ذكرنا يتحيّنون مواسم الإنتخابات فقط ليحلّو مكان المغادرين من السّلطة، هؤلاء لا يفهمون بأنّ الإنتخابات وسيلة وليست غاية، وأن تحقيق الصّالح العام ودفع عجلة الأمن والإقتصاد أولى وأجدر من لعبة الكراسي، هؤلاء لا يفهمون بأنّ إنتشال وطنهم من القاع أفضل لهم من اعتلاء كرسي صوريّ لا يتيح لهم التّحكّم الفعليّ في مجريات البلد إلّا فيما قلّ وندر.
وفي هذا الصدد؛ نرى بأن الحكومة الفيدرالية عقدت العزم على عدم مغادرة السلطة إلّا عن طريق إنتخابات عامّة وأنّها تنوي عدم الرّجوع إلى الوراء وعقد الانتخابات غير المباشرة الّتي خلّفت إستياء الجميع منها، ولا أحد يرغب في تكرارها مجدّدا لما صاحبها من فساد وتضخّم سياسيّ وخلق حالة إحتقان مجتمعيّ.
على الأطراف المعارضة لحكومة خيري التّعاون معها في تحقيق إنتخابات عامّة وعدم الخوف من النزول معها في إنتخابات عامّة لأنّ عقد إنتخابات عامّة يُلغي الدور المحوري للأعيان وشيوخ العشائر ويُساهم في الإنتقال إلى مرحلة تأسيس دولة مدنية ذات مؤسّسات، وعليهم أن لا تُشغلهم الخصومة مع الحكومة عن تحقيق مصلحة الأجيال القادمة، وإلّا فإنّه لا يمكن أن تعرقل إجراء إنتخابات وتدّعي في الوقت نفسه بأنّ الحكومة فشلت في مسؤوليتها. هذا سيؤدّي فقط إلى التّمديد فيما يبدو، نظرا لعدم رغبة المجتمع الدولي في حدوث إنتخابات غير مباشرة التي بموجبها إنضمّ لعضوية البرلمان عشرات ممّن يُشتبه بأنّ لهم صلات بحركة الشّباب كما تشير إليه التّقارير الأمميّة.
إضافة إلى ما سبق، فإنّ بعض التّقارير تشير بأنّ فكرة التّمديد قد أحدثت هزّة طفيفة بين فرماجو وخيري، حيث أنّ الأخير رأى نفسه أنّ أيّ تفاوض بين الحكومة والمعارضة فكرة التّمديد سيكون على حساب كرسيه وقد تجعله خارج المعادلة تماما ممّا دفع فرماجو للتوقف عن التّفكير فيها والبحث ربّما عن خيارات بديلة ربّما يكون التّمديد الصامت (الغير معلن) أحد هذه الخيارات بإضافة نحو بضعة شهور حتّى عام ذاتيّا للإبتعاد قليلا عن جلبة اصوات المعارضة وقد تكون الجائحة مخرجا نسبيّا لهم في ذلك كما ذكرنا.
