Retiring to Makkah/Madinah.

Postby original dervish » Mon May 24, 2021 6:38 am

No fam.....OD is a long way off from retirement.....its my hooyo whose retiring inshallah.

Alhamdulilah I have been blessed with both parents living into old age. Most of my contemporaries lost one or both parents years ago.aun.

My mother was planning to retire to Somalia/ Mogadishu but recently has become fixated with Makkah/Madinah.

My Habar yar lived in Makkah for over three years, completing three haj and 42 umrah.....learned a lot of Quran and generally engaged in iibaadhat. My mother is looking to do similar things.
However, we don't have any close relatives, just a few distant cousins, in Saudi.

Renting a place, getting health insurance and hiring a Somali maid is not a problem........leaving my mother alone has become a contentious issue for family. Personally, I'm not against the idea.....our mother doesn't see as much of us in London anyway.

My question to the snet fam is basically do you know of anything similar occurring. Apparently a lot of older Somalis are retiring to Saudi. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Ma Shaa Allah Tabaarak Arahmaan

Amazing. I met one of my friend’s Uncle who is really up there in age he was a Ambassador during MSB time and he retired in Madina. He’s elderly and lives by himself. His son is a Doctor in Mecca and checks on him periodically. Like you said a realtor of which there are many will find her a apartment. Health Insurance I’m assuming she has a international medical plan so that’s not an issue. Somali maids are plentiful so that’s not an issue. Whatsapp is blocked on Saudi so you will need to get her a viber or something. Send me a PM if you need any info.

if your coming from the west the Arabian Peninsula is a great place to live and better then the west very suitable for the Elders away from this cold, damp conditions and if you help them with some money then they can invest in it and export to Somalia.

Arabs are not good when your working for them but if you dont need then their countries are better than west and she will have cheap maid.

The main issue is finding a decent apartment to rent.
Online all I can find is slum like buildings.
