It's just cumar maxamuud project to stay away from the reer bari. While any infrastructure brings some benefits , this will definitely compete against boosaaso only, for the majeerten market. This ‘port’ aka jetty in garacad was built to take business away from bosaso. Reer bosaso were not happy with the puntland state’s deal with P&O ports and refused to allow corrupt development- garowe/qardho community said we can punish reer bosaso/bari via this project

It appears Garacad port would have the advantage of starting business ahead of Berbera port (a minimum of 5 years before its construction is completed). With plans to expand its size in a few years, Garacad port (possibly along with Bossaso port) could become a serious competitor to Berbera's. The lesson is, you don't need mega projects that require $billions, decades of construction, on top of being owned by foreign companies/states, and the possibility of abandoning it due to cost overruns (as happened to many mega projects); you only need an easily manageable, smart hybrid & expandable port like Garacad's. Nonetheless, competition is good for the consumer.
