The Somaliland Project Hope Humanitarian & Development Organization (SPH) is appealing for humanitarian assistance for thousands of Somali Children with disabilities.
These children are among the most neglected children in our country, which has for many years suffered through civil war. As a result these disabled children are in need of help to meet their basic needs of daily living and education.
The Somaliland Municipal Local Council of Hargeisa has donated a plot of land for a school, to be called Sunny View School. It will be modeled after and twinned on a long-term basis with Sunny View Public School of the Toronto District School Board, http://schools.tdsb.on.ca/sunnyview/pag ... olinfo.htm). As you may already know Sunny View School (Toronto) is a congregated special education setting for students with high physical and health needs. Sunny View (Toronto) is offering assistance by providing some educational materials and specialized therapy equipment. The Somali Ministry of Education is also offering assistance. Due to limited local Somali resources Project Hope is appealing for financial aid to construct this special school for children with disabilities as well as to provide additional materials and specialized therapy equipment.
I am a staff member at Sunny View Public School (Toronto) where a number of interested colleagues have joined me to form a fund raising committee. The immediate goal is to raise funds to build a pilot school in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
