General Yusuf, in the 1970's had close ties with Ethiopia, along with many other rebel groups, however, never did he have ties with Kenya. During the 1970's era, in school there were several enlistments to join the army, there was a legion/division for every region of Somalia, and Kenya never came up, it was a thing of the 1960's. It would serve no purpose and president Siad Barre's economic closure with Kenya and their friendly treatment of Northeastern Somalis never prompted any attack or plans. It would be diplomatically and economically unwise.
I have never added that he had any ties with Kenya nor that he was hiding there. In fact, in 1978, ina Yusuf held a press-conference in Ethiopia disclosing this plan. The late president's main goal was to capture and secure Ogaadeenia first, and then advance towards the NFD. But due the unforseen circumstances (i.e. Russia and Cubia aiding Ethiopia), the plan was dropped.
