Somali Diaspora Support Initiative
Call for Peace
Somali Diaspora Support Initiative is deeply concerned about the consequences that the ongoing instability will create for a an already terrible humanitarian condition in Gedo region. The organization's main concern is the renewed hostility between the warring factions of the region during this period of time whereby the inhabitants of the region are experiencing the worst droughts of the decade.
The ongoing wars and instability of the region will eventually create a catastrophic humanitarian disaster beyond our imagination. The inhabitants of the region who witnessed unnecessary wars and mayhem for many years coupled with droughts and lack of water is not currently in a position to go through the same problem.
Therefore, SDSI is calling upon all the warring parties:
That all hostilities be ceased among the warring parties in the region of Gedo. These people who have been deprived of their right to lead a normal life cannot anymore afford to go through mayhem.
That all warring parties should solve their differences through negotiations and accept all the peace plan proposals that are tabled to them.
That all the clan elders, who are currently inside the region, be mobilized to end the hostilities among the warring brethrens.
That all interference in the region be desisted by all non-Sade entities. We believe that the warring brethrens can solve their problems and misunderstanding if left un-intervened.
SDSI calls upon all the people in the Diaspora who are the descendants of the region to intervene in this matter and extend their efforts in peace-building in the region.
