If you want the honest truth, the majority of reer Gedo people are supporters of Al shabaab. The rest are indifferent to them. Fighting al shabaab under the name of a qabil is also quite dumb.....that is something even reer hiiraan, who are fighting al shabaab now, don't do.

Taking bribes, raping women, closing down stalls in the market and forcing people to abandon the government houses they've lived ion the past 20 years, its tyranny.

If that's the case, why are people putting up with these monsters, they have arms and been fighting for some 18 odd years, why would they put up with Shabaab when they didn't put up with any of the other maamuls?

truth is that the people in Gedo are ruled by al-shabab who are generally marehan, so what do you mean reer Gedo should liberate themselves? how can one liberate themselves from their own people/family/uncles/sons etc. However, the story is different in Caabudwaaq because there, it's non -marehan al-shabab who wants to rule and hence being fought.

I was asking her if Shabaab are so bad, why are the people not fighting them?

Truth is most people are not fighting Shabaab wether in Gedo, Baidoa, Kismayo or Marka, cause there is no reason to fight them. Even if they don't like them, their has to be something to fight for and to be completely honest their is nothing to fight for. There is nothing that they do is worth sending boys to die for

You think they are sufficiently armed to defeat the force which controls most of the South? You dont think al-Shabaab has unarmed most of the gedo residents whilst they've been in control? :|

U said it all, there's no reason to fight them since they are our own people, and their system seems to be more beneficial for the public in terms of law and order, safety, justice etc.

That's utterly nonsense, and this must be another one of ur immature assumptions. Yes, Gedo resident has sufficient arms and men to get rid of shabaab, but they chose to not because they are our own people and closest family. And secondly, shabaab haven't unarmed all the resident in Gedo, but the only people they unarmed were those who were threat to the security of the region. Furthermore, shabaab seem to be prepared for an Ethiopian invasion at any time, and that's the reason why they did not unarmed all resident because if they did that, they would be making easier for the ethiopians in the future to rule the region if shabaab were defeated. Leaving the arms to the residents would allow them in the future to start new resistance against Ethiopian invasion if they were to defeat shabaab.
