Al Shabaab's recent attempt in Garbaharey was their last

Postby Voltage » Fri Mar 02, 2012 4:49 pm

major movement in Gedo and they fell miserably. As I have gotten it was a particularly brutal battle for Shabaab who were tricked into taking the offensive. The Gedo troops never moved towards Baardheere because unlike the capture of Baidoa, the Gedo troops are mostly doing the fighting in Gedo so Shabaab would have faced them head on instead of running away like they did in Baydhaba from the Ethiopians.

Basically the Gedo troops did not want fighting in Baardheere or risking falling into a trap set by Shabaab (Baardheere and Kismaayo more than any other city in Somalia is where Shabaab basis importance and Baardheere's importance is if the Sade take it, they have taken Kismaayo which is Shabaab's lifeline) so they pretended to show weakness by stopping at Garbahareey. After no movement, Shabaab thought the TFG troops were scare of them or did not have the capabilities to take Baardheere so they started to get bold again and tried to bring the battle from a defense of Baardheere to an offense in Garbahareey.

The TFG Gedo troops massacred them on the outside of the town as all the reports have shown and now Shabaab is unable to give a strong defense of Baardheere after their offense was broken.

The Gedo troops have left Garbahareey and are now headed towards Buurdhuubo and Baardheere.

Gedo is almost free and so is Kismaayo.

Voltage I applaud the way you thinking, because you are right. The attempt of Al-Shabaab's attack on Garbahareey was their tactic of de-moralising the bulk TFG troops of Gedo. Where the evacuted Al-Shabaab troops in Baydhabo alongside Abu Mansur attack on Garbaharrey.

2 Reer Xassan TFG commanders where killed Faracadde and some other guy and Mahmoud Sayid Adan got small injury, the Garbaharrey general hospital part of it got destroyed, apart from that the real losers where Al-Shabaab and many of their injuries were taken to Kismaayo.

The Shabaab in Baardheere and the ones removed from Baydhabo combined to take Garbahareey and the Gedo troops there massacred them. If the Shabaab union can't fight a section of Marehan, how can they fight Ethiopia?

True high ranking leaders died and even Mohamud Sayid Adan suffered casualties because everyone had to fight but Shabab ran back with their tails under their feet
Xoogaga Shabaab oo dagaalo ku soo qaaday Magaaladda Garbahaarey ayaa waxay dib uga laabteen Magaaladda Garbahaarey, markii khasaaro culus ay kala kulmeyn Ciidamadda Dowladda Kmg ah ee Soomaaliya oo ay ka dhinac dagaalamayaan Ciidamadda Ahlu Sunna Wal Jameeca.

http://www.markacadey.net/news/34154/da ... biyay.html
Now the TFG troops have started the final movement towards taking Baardheere and all of Gedo
Xiisadda ayaa bilaabatay kadib markii Ciidamo ka tirsan kuwa dowladda KMG ah oo wata gaadiid dagaal ay kasoo amba baxeen degmada Garbaahaareey oo habeen ka hor ay weerar ku qaadeen Ciidamada Al Shabaab kuwaasi oo usoo roqaansaday dhinaca degmada Baardheere oo ay gacanta ku hayaan AL shabaab, waxaana la sheegay in gudaha degmadaasi iyana ay dhaq dhaqaq ka wadaan Ciidamo ka tirsan Al Shabaab halka kuwa dowladdana la sheegay inay ku sugan yihiin duleedka degamdaasi.

I'm suprised at how half the Sade traditional leaders are being brainwashed by Al-Shabaab. After the liberation there will be severe headache coming Beesha Sade of Gedo.

Because most of them are based in Baardheere. Baardheere is the seat of the Sade Guurti and being under Shabaab control necessitates accepting to be a "lahayste" for a while rather than risk death or exile.

Great defending of Garbaharey. Garba being the capitol of the Region, it would have been demoralizing even if they took it briefly.

Didn't Al Shabaab attack Beled Xaawo last night? I gotta say Marexaanka, wether in Al Shabab or other groups, are xoolo. The eelaay in Al Shabab did not want to destroy their city so they peacefully evacuated but here they are fighting in Garbaharay along with Marexaan dumb asses in Al shabab.

a division between Sade subclans is manifesting itself as Alshabab vs others, boys from different subclans are filling the ranks of opposing groups for the sole purpose of killing each other. plain an simple. It has nothing to do with Doollow forces tactics or military movement, nor has it got anything to do with Alshababs movement and strategy as you suggested.
It has to do with leaders of those subclans, especially tribal elders, they have failed to broker an agreement between different subclans and as a result hit and run attacks in Beledxaawo will continue and violence will not stop until an equilibrium is reached.

when subclans are hellbent on exterminating each other this is the outcome unfortunately.
