Prim Minister Shirdon petitions US govt for Samatar immunity

Postby The`Republic » Fri Mar 01, 2013 7:28 pm

The US court will now be obligated to honor the immunity of foreign representative now that the Somali government is officially recognized. Shirdoon is a tactical strategian...a really old school politician who knows how to play chess with decorum and diplomacy

The letter issued this week by the Federal Republic of Somalia’s prime minister, Abdi Farah Shirdon, seeks immunity for Mohamed Ali Samantar, who now lives in Fairfax but was a top official in dictator Siad Barre’s regime in the 1980s and early 1990s.

The fact that the Somali prime minister, who was himself an official in the Barre regime, requested the immunity so soon after receiving U.S. recognition reflects the importance of the case to the Somali government, Drennan said. He said the new government is seeking to move beyond the old score-settling of clan-based grievances, and lawsuits like the one brought in Virginia by members of the Isaaq clan “represent a threat to efforts to promote peace and reconciliation.”

No need for reconciliation. Hargaisa is not going anywhere. If it was it would have happened in the last 20 years.

Look a the guy above me he is like the loser who comes 4th but says well at least I ran. Ok? Cali Samantar is an old and frail man who has the respect and dignity that allows his country to ask for immunity as soon as it was recognized.

What simpletons don't understand is no amount of immunity request will brush off crimes he himself admitted to. There is no "dignity" to speak of, living your
last days as a convicted criminal shamed in this world and possibly the hereafter. Now that he is fragile and old I couldn't care less, he should have thought about
that when he was ordering the killings of unarmed civilians including the elderly which the government he held a top position in represented at that time.

And for the record I am neither a loser nor bitter that is reserved for the children of the exiled dictator. I am proud to say many of my uncles were part of the SNM
and got their sweet justice.

Hey hey don't cry because they made sure your Granpa Siad Bare died in a Nigerian slum while in exile. I would've been mad as well if I was you, no more landcruisers
but living in the slums of Bula Xaawo.
