Why do some reer Siyaad Diini use surnames like the Westerners

My father’s business partner is Reer Siyaad, him and his children have same surname . I’ve also seen ilma Shareeco, Looyaan, ilma Biixi and there are like thousands of them in each family world wide

I was actually talking to the first Loyan to do it, he completely supported me for being the first to it in my family. We tend to have unique Somali names, and we are already known as Reer Hebel, it is just formalizing this. Besides it’s not a western thing, Arabs do the same thing.

Reer Siyaad use nicknames. Example; Shareeco’s real name is probably Hassan and Rooble and used to live somewhere in Hawd during the Dervish era. Other Sade people use real names such as Barre, Kooshin, Sharaawe, Hashi, Warfaa, Magan, Burhan, Ashkir, Shirdoon, Samawade, Hirsi, Shire, Jama, etc
