As you know Caabudwaaq Airport was picked to be the airport being paved with tarmac for Galmudug.

Not only is Caabudwaaq the biggest city in Galmudug but it also is the largest livestock market in central Somalia where central Somali clans and neighboring Ogaden region districts meet to do business.

It was just couple days ago the Transport Minister with the Turkish engineers was here inaugurating the construction.

It seems they have started already. I am actually pleasantly surprised by the quickness

This is Abudwak Airport right now.

The airport has the distinction of being the FIRST and the largest airport built COMPLETELY by the local Somali community (the Marehan clan in this case).

They had no support whatsoever from government nor NGO nor anyone else.

It is possible and probably true that there were other Somalis of goodwill who may not have been Marehan that contributed on individual basis.

We thank the Somali Federal Government and Turkey and TIKA for helping to modernize and take Abudwak Airport to the next stage to become an INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT with tarmac runway.

Lovely. They also started paving the road from the airport to the town.
