They were too busy writing about Siad Barre and post-1969. Srs.Young Idajaa,
All our history is staring in front of us. I’m happy you’re finally taking this seriously. Only critique is. How come nobody ever realized this before? I’m not talking about the colonial scholars like I.M. Lewis or Cerulli. I’m talking about the Somali scholars in the 60s and especially the 70s?

I think we had age grades like the rest of the Cushites most famously expressed by the Oromo Gadaa system.
For one the terminology of our lineage system is shared with other Cushites who do not have segmented lineage system.
For example the Oromo GOSSA is our QOYS and the JILBA is our JILIB.
But where we use it as sub-clan, they use it as sub-moeity.
If you don't understand the age grade concept, Oromo culture is organized into a period of 8 years in 11 successions
So
1-8,9-17, etc.
If you are born during that 8 year period, you move on with your group tp another stage at the end of the 8 years.
The fact the sub clans of each clan, are so similar in abtirsi just emphasises the fact these clans are all confederations. Which is really sad if you ask me.![]()
Every 8 years, elections happen once and new tribal leadership is chosen.
The age group also goes into "forced retirement" every 40 years.
Because the Oromo are divided into 5 main groups, 1 group is in power every 40 years.
So the group whose turn it is during that time are the only ones whose age groups are eligible for leadership over the whole Oromo people.
So basically
5 groups of Oromo × 8 = 40 years
During that 40 years
1 group in power in 11 succession of 8 years
If you are between 0-8 when your group is im power, it is possible you will see your group come to power 2X in your lifetime 40
BASICALLY I THINK WE HAD AGE GROUPS AND THAT'S WHAT KABLALAX, SADE, TANADE, ETC MEANT
FURTHERMORE WITHIN EACH GROUP, WE MAY HAVE HAD SIMILAR DEMOCRATIC MEANS OF CONTROLLING WHO WAS IN POWER
IT IS POSSIBLE 21 YEARS WAS OUR PERIOD OF SUCCESSION CONSIDERING HOW IMPORTANT THAR NUMBER IS TO SOMALI CULTURE AND THE FACT WHEN WE LAST STOPPED AGE GROUPS HUMAN TIMESPAN WAS SHORTER
ALSO IT MEANS WE HAD MOITIES (SPIRITUAL ORDER) WHICH IS WHAT
Marehan: AWSAME & UURMIDIG
Majeerteen: AAWE & WABEENEEYE
Ogadeen: MAQAABUL & MIYIRWALAAL
Etc
And it is possible Marehan may have been divided in the two MOITIES
AW-SAME : HEAVENLY FATHER/SKY GOD
UUR-MIDIG : RIGHTEOUS WOMB/ MOTHER EARTH
SEED & SOIL
SEMEN & EGG
FERTILIZER & FERTILIZED
LIFE & DEATH

Interesting story so Marehan ayeeyo wa jin? Hahaha reminds me of that hawiye maah maah darood wa jinni habar gidirna wa jinni aragThere is a story I don't know if you heard it about Marehan wondering off, and seeing some lizard/snake struggling in the desert, he gave it water from the well and shade, then he left it alone and moved with his livestock, later he saw a beautiful woman approaching him, she told him I was that lizard/snake, and I am indebted to you due to the charitable act MX did, her dad was some sort of chief of jins and she told MX to convey what he did for her and demand her hand in marriage. This is folktale about Awsame and Urmidig being half jins and the famous tuurcase timocadde etc jins being their cousin or uncles who aid them in war when its a just war.
this folktale is obviously islamized, but it is very similar to Egyptian folktale about a king serpent who was king of Punt, these stories are prevalent in Horn of Africa, Habesha have these stories as well, but I believe only MX has it among Somalis.
