180 Somali police officers being trained in Beledweyne

Postby TheblueNwhite » Sat Jul 28, 2012 7:52 pm

A training programme for 180 Somali police officers began on Thursday (July 26th) in Beledweyne, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
The 26-day training will prepare the officers to assume responsibility for security in the town, said Officer Commanding Station Ali Abdi Mahad, adding that he is optimistic that security will improve when they do.

Somali police have been undergoing training in recent months, as in Turkey, where the Turkish National Police Academy is training more than 60 officers. While studying under the Turkish police, the Somali officers will learn procedures for arrests, traffic control and field communications.

A number of African states, including Nigeria and Uganda, have also pledged their support to training the Somali force, the news agency reported.
