Samaale,
I got nothing but love for Beesha Sure and appreciate their bravery in keeping the baby-killing Xawaadle folks at bay. Just for your information, hoping this may help, during the civilian government where we had a little bit more civilized clan elections, both Jamaame candidates were often Ogaadeen. There were four parliamentary elections from 1960 to 1969 and with the exception of two times, Jamaame sent two OGs to the parliament. The two exceptions were Biyomaal MP and Mareexaan MP. The Mareexaan MP was a relative of one of the OGs that dominated the Jamaame politics. For you information, the first Somali Defense Minister and the first Somali ambassador to United States were both elected from Jamaame. There were brothers; Hilowle Macalin and Cumar Macallin.
Here is Hilowle on the far right; the first Defense Minister of the newly-born Somali Republic:
And here is Cumar Macallin welcoming the prime minister of the state to Washington. Check at
3:42 of the video and listen how the Somali Ambassador to the United States provides the reception for the PM and other international dignitaries. This was in 1962. Both Ilma-Macalin brothers were elected from Jamaame. By the way, the famous Mataano sisters are the grand daughters of Cumar Macallin, one of the greatest Somalis I have ever met. He died in San Diego 1999. You can see him clearly at the end of the video at 9:02 smoking cigarettes.
Yes, you can argue that they were rich and perhaps bought the election. But Somalia in 1960s is where the so-called Somaliland is today. All candidates were elected democratically along clan lines and if you don't have strong presence of your clan in the area, you are toasted. Yes there were few instances were people from other clans were elected from cities where they did not have strong clan connections, but even those had strong maternal links. Yuusuf Dheere who was Ogaadeen was sent to the parliament by Hargaisa, and of course the sub clan of his mother was responsible for that. And I know for sure that Ila-Macalin had no Biyomaal or Bantu relatives
