Personally I do not have a problem with Somaliland succeeding from Somalia. The people of the former British protectorate are homogenous and no major conflict has erupted between them unlike the people of the former Italian colony. However, Somaliland needs to be democratic and all tribes should be represented fairly. I believe that if the Harti tribes participated in Somaliland politics there would certainly be a huge change in the current foreign and domestic political position of Somaliland. Possibly the former political alliance of USP could be resurrected which would assure the Dir and Harti tribes a fair representation. Any differences or hatred between the Harti and Isaaq clans in Somaliland can be reconciled, as we are all Somali and Muslims after all. Also, Isaaqs need to be aware that Harti especially Dhulbahante is a large and noble tribe with a rich history of self-determination, therefore to get their endorsement for Somaliland, isaaqs need to persuade them in dialogue rather than by force.

I supported the unity of Somalia all my live but since the federal government of Somalia has gone and gave the Dhulbahante MP's to Puntland i have lost hope in Somalia! frankly somaliland offers a better prospect for my people.

Man you are not Dhulbahante and never will they join Somaliland over our dead bodies. I would rather hang myself then watch Dhulbahante join this failed project.

I can buy property in hargeysa and live there in safety. I can't do the same in my own so-called "capital". My "countrymen" would lynch me. This is the reality.

It's not much of a choice really. The only reason that the majeerteen haven't seceded themselves is because they have a dream of ruling Somalia lol. It's xukun jacayl plain and simple. They want to use the daarood card to keep their influence in Somalia. They have their own agenda and in most cases, our agenda conflicts with theirs. Most of us have no lot in Xamar politics, MJ are heavily vested in it. This isn't even about Puntland, it's about the future of Somalia.

The Hawiyes been fighting for decades and now that they've stopped killing each other off, they've invited all kinds of trash (literally) to Somalia, sold off its resources and have betrayed its people. These people live on a different planet than the rest of us. You can't share a country with people who are this destructive and short-sighted. Wallahi as much as Isaaqs can be obnoxious and extremely tribalistic, I don't see them destroying their own country like this. They are politically way more savvy than these people and understand the importance of long-term planning and the common good. These concepts are completely foreign to Hawiye.

It's my political opinion and I stand behind it. I believe in Somaliweyn but looking at the direction that the current leadership is taking the country in, I have very little hope in the people of xamar.. A president who invites foreign troops, imports toxic waste from Lebanon and sends your women to work as maids in the khaliij is useless. His tribe supports him despite all of his crimes against the somali people.

You can't expect the rest of us to get behind this crap.
