At least seven people have been confirmed dead in the Buuhoodle area of Sool region of northern Somalia following an outbreak of cholera.
The outbreak of the epidemic is linked to the shortage of water in the region as most of the boreholes have dried up as the drought continues to ravage most parts of the Sool,Sanaag and Cayn regions. Many more remain vulnerable to the outbreak due to lack of sufficient medicines and hospitals in the area, and the absence of aid from both the Somali government, NGO's and international aid agencies.
The humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing drought in Sool , Sanaag and Cayn regions of Northern Somali have worsened and most NGO’S and international aid agencies have kept away from these regions due to the false advisory from the Somaliland administration that these are insecure areas .
