An education scholarship worth Sh15 million for youth to acquire technical skills has been launched in Garissa County.

According to Governor Nathif Jama, many youth prefer white collar jobs which are scarce compared to those that need vocational training.

“The aim of the program as a whole is to develop professional, technical and human resource skills and create opportunities for local employment, the ultimate goal is to create a cadre of learned professionals who will be willing to serve and bring back value to the county of Garissa,” he said.

The Governor noted that no better investment can be made than to support the youth who will make a difference in the community.

County executive for Education Hussein Hajir said the program will help address mass unemployment of youth in the county adding that it will provide a planned approach to training and local development program.

It is expected that up to about 1000 people will benefit from the programm
