Why do my Somali brothers choose to want to be thugs? Why don't my brothers take advantage of the opportunities in North America/Europe and go get an education? Keep out of trouble.

90% of the time they come 2 this country with little or no education... they just pop out babies.. and neglect their duties as parents to instill moral values and principles in addition with the IMPORTANCE of education.

The kids then being as human as they are adopt the nearest culture which brands them as being "cool" protects them, gives them a sense of belonging and .... the most obvious part... its easy 2 listen to a hip hop tract and enjoy that, but incredibly difficult to pick up a book and enjoy its reading material and articulate content.

its simple really, BLAME THE PARENTS!!

It just makes me angry that a small community such as ours has so many problems. But, I refuse to give up. I will not turn my back on the Somali community.

Starting a youth group would be good. However, there needs to be people are willing to make it work and are dedicated to make a difference. However, we need to be in our sisters/brothers/cousins lives. We have to make sure to look out for each other. I honestly believe that Somali people do not hate each other. We are a peaceful group of people but evil dictators/war criminals have severely destroyed our community cohesion. It is up to us ( people born here/grew up here) to start telling these old farts that their backward ways of thinking is no good. It is not 10 years too late. I refuse to be pessimistic.
