Scotland Yard has defended the time taken to prosecute Abu Hamza, the radical Muslim cleric, following revelations that he had long been regarded as key figure in Islamic terror.
Abu Hamza was prosecuted in 2004
Police admitted they had been investigating Hamza for several years and had made submissions to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), but on each occasion there had been no offence committed or there was insufficient evidence to prosecute.
