The report talks about Somali, but there is NO mention about Somaliland?? Does this report include the Somalilanders struggle in the UK. I have visited Somaliland once in 1999 and more recently in Jan 2006. I feel the country is improving without major funding from the EU and the USA. But feel more could be done for a country that is stable and is NOT run by so called WAR LORDS!!!!

I was friendly with a Somalian who came to the UK to train for a couple of months in 1979. I remember about the class differences because he was extremely proud of the fact that he came from what had been British Somaliland rather than the Italian part. He was well educated and had a sister who was married to a British seaman and lived in Cardiff. He worked for the State Insurance Company and in those days there was virtually no crime in the country, even in Mogadishu. Having lived in Africa for many years I realise what teerible problems have been caused by tribal and religious differences, but this seems to be one of the worst cases in Africa. Organisations in Britain need to understand these problems and help all Somalis living here.

Salam, I read the article is quite sad many somalis forget that this isnt our country we here to do well education wise then go back to somalia and try to rebuild our country. Or Also live in this country and help the somalis community here by doing voluntary work in your spare time.
Somalis need to forget about qabil and certain tradition and turn to the Deen, without Deen we are nothing and we will achieve nothing.

but i tink a lots of somalis have actually intergrated with society tooo much!!............and have actually lost their culture and deen!

A lot of the somali youth.......especially the males have go astray and are now involved in criminal cativities!!

wat they dnt see to know is that.......u came here to escape all the violence back home and have been given a chance...so take it!!

Explosive i heard that as well is quite sad, i agree somalis did intregrate with this society, quite ironically they intregrated with the downside of this society. I think families have a big role to play in this i am not one that blames the family but i am sure if you raise your kids in a strict islamic manner and teach them what islams stands for things will surely be different.
Our tradition contradicts our Deen in many ways, we must follow the deen.

Personally I think parents are uninvolved in the educational side of their childrens life. Most do not realise how much their children have been struggling until their gcse's or a levels....in which case it is already too late for most. Most of the problems in our community lies with the family, for if the famliy is not teaching their children the difference between right and wrong...or teaching them that education (religious as well as secular) is the key to success both in this dunya and the next, what chance to they have??

What I hate about London is the way you see somali youth wondering the streets all hours of the night...don't they have homes to go to? Don't their parents care where they are? I also cannot excuse those type of parents that have been in the country 5 or 10yrs + and still do not speak the english language, especially when they have to interact with society *as in work*, but the problem is that most of somali families are unemployed **or working and still claiming benefit*.

I person tink its the fathers who are to blame!!!...........especially wid the male youths. None of the seem to b around and spend most of the time in a marfash so they dnt even know wat their kids are upto or let alone wats happening in his household!!

Overall somalis have too many problems!!.......its a reverse trend where now the women have become the bread winners!!

Somalis are always potrayed negative in media..................yet we sit back and allow them to do this!!

i get wat ya sayin. however i do believe dat many somali parents try an help der kids in many ways in terms of education. they send them to homework clubs, buying them revision guides and sum somali children even hav da privalige of having a personal tutor. some white parents dont even buy der kids revison guides and in many cases dont sen dem to school.

ders only so much a parents can do.

i do beleive dat many somali's are lackin beacuse of da society they live in as in muslim countries somali's are well educated.

somali kids need 2 realise dat they go to school for thier own good and for their financal needs in the future. they need to understand thet they represent the whole of the somali population in da uk and not jus der selves.

Well we agree is partly the family fault, fathers not being there and the somali kids are also to blame. They individuals they have they own brain at the end of the day is easy to always blame others for people mistake personally i didnt have it easy however thats just keeps me motivated I know many sisters and brothers that didnt have their family there yet do well. When your 14 15 your not a child in my eyes you knows between right and wrong. When I was 13 i had to be responsible for my own actions i am 17 now and know what i want in life.

Spot on, I am quite shoked at that too, I wasnt brough up in London i moved here and i cant get over that fact! When you come from school or college unless you got Clubs or things like that to attend they should go home straight away this isnt our country is dangerous. Somali parents need to either somehow get a job or even do voluntary work to learn the language where have they been for 10 years? Ver suprising.
