History cannot be changed: To all revisionist people

Postby Somaliweyn » Tue Jul 24, 2007 9:24 am

***Beginning of a new era***

Maxamed Siad Barre’s explanation for the coup:

''Intervention by the Armed Forces was inevitable. It was no longer possible
to ignore the evil things like corruption, bribery, nepotism, theft of public
funds, injustice and disrespect to our religion and the laws of the country.
The laws were thrust aside and people did whatever they wanted.'' up

He continues:

'There was no longer a sense of confidence in the national will, not even a minimum basis for national cooperation was established, and there was a high degree of moral decay.' (David D. Laitin, 1976) up

***The beginning of the end of the era***

''Faced with shrinking popularity and an armed and organized domestic resistance, Siad Barre unleashed a reign of terror against the Majeerteen, the Hawiye, and the Isaaq, carried out by the Red Berets (Duub Cas), a dreaded elite unit recruited from among the president's Mareehaan clansmen. Thus, by the beginning of 1986 Siad Barre's grip on power seemed secure, despite the host of problems facing the regime.'' (Library of Congress, country study: Somalia)

‘’Members of the regime, who controlled and used the national coffers as their personal accounts, paid little attention to the details of the new contract and related questions of fairness and the national interest. Shocked

''Moreover, senior members of the regime and their families had a stake in this distribution because they owned plantations. For example, two large estates were owned by one of the president’s wives and one of his daughters.'' Shocked

''For at least six years, top officials of the Somali government
diverted US food aid from the most needy to
enrich their friends and to feed the army fighting a
long-running border war with Ethiopia.''

''Some of the worst abuses occurred during Africa's most tragic
famine year, 1984. Only 12 percent of the 16,000 tons of emergency
food the US provided Somalia reached the hungry people it
was intended for, reported the GAO.''

''Instead, 9 percent went to
the Somali armed forces, 21 percent to other government bodies
for their use, and 58 percent was not even distributed.''

DAMN Shocked So Aideed learned from the Godfather Siad Barre how to steal food AID and re-direct it to own forces Laughing

More shocking and enlightening comparison between different periods of Somali history.

Hawiye's most intelligent man yet still dimmer than beetle dung. Cite your sources and present an intelligent argument.

Muslim-man,

Its because we are dealing with amateur arm chair politicians wanna be.

Anyone who has been following Somali politics for a long time aka since the 1980s can honestly admit the shortcomings of each politician.

I always worry about the new comers to the game who seem to have a rosey perspective of the Somali political movements without conceding their failures.

In other words, too many guulwades Laughing

^^^

i didn't read the topic, but your title is misleading. history comes from the two words, his story, and two historians who witness the same episode may intrepret different. revissionist mostly use new materials. how others saw what happened. not your source.

Muslim,

Kweli,

I have always been anti-estabilishment.

I opposed Moi's KANU, Nyerere's CCM, Barre's SSRP, Mahdi's Manifesto and at a later date, Aideed's SNA.

You have to remind these politicians who they work for. I don't work for them and keeping them honest/in check is the only true way to avoid disaster.

As usual, simpletons continue mis-using the term 'historical revisionism'. No wonder why these people kept the capital city hostage for the last 17 years, it seems that their own intellectuals cannot surpass the same brain level as their drug-crazed child soldiers.

History is analytical description based on evidence. A simple quotation does not by any means uniformly express the truth of a certain event. To give you an example, this kid 'Somaliweyn' has managed to quote from the infamous book 'Somalia: Country study'.

This book, compiled after the civil war, was based on the erroneous reports that the US received from the outlaws during the late 80's. These fabricated reports, meant to incite the general population in order to generate a rally for their cause. When the central system collapsed, for years, the USC provided fabricated tales about how the Siyaad regime was to blame for everything whilst they sneakily were hunting and terrorising innocenent Daarood. Similiary for the SNM who deliberatly dug-up "mass-graves" and declared that they were executed Isaaqs whilst these mass-graves could have been the thousands of Daaroods that were executed by the SNM during its brief capture of Hargeysa and Burco.

Another example is the '88 bombing. Around 5,000 Somalis died. Afther the collapse of the government, the number was exaggerated to 50,000. In 2007, the number stands at 100,000. In five-years time, the number will jump to 500,000.

The fact of the matter is, your so-called 'sources' are nothing more than propagandic statements compiled in to one source after the crumbled government. None of the your sources pre-date early 80's. Everyone is well-aware that the late 80's was an age and time where the government was deteriorating with Maxamed Siyaad Barre (RH) in a car-accident. Sure, he did commit mistakes as he even said in his last interview.

His words were: "I am only a human, that unfortunately was my mistake. The English have a saying when you perform little, you make a few mistakes, when you do not perform anything, you make no mistakes."

Lastly, we all know that the primary source of you hatred for M S Barre (RH) stems from Hawiye's inability to build a succesful interim government. Instead, anarchy and chaos followed after his depature and yet they have the audicity to blame their inadequates on someone else.

Now I have compiled a list of achievements that the government provided, followed by its citations. What has Cali Mahdi or Caydiid achieved apart from chaos and anarchy?

To AbdiWahhab, why do you insist on claiming that you were following Somali poiltics from the 80's. This idiot was not even present during the civil war, what makes you think you have any clue about Somali politics?

The Red Berets rather have the academic research conducted by the pseudo-Professor Warsame:

''Establishing the Somali Navy force''
''A concerted effort was undertaken to improve animal health care.''
''Vaccinations against animal diseases were provided freely ''

and more of he built a hospital, he built a well-kind of arguments Laughing

Anyways, these are just some short highlights of a long topic I made in the general discussions: current events sections. If u want to refute them go there and do your best Laughing

My sources are mixed, both from before 1991 as well as after 1991. Multiple sources all agreeing on the failures of Barre.
-----

Abdiwahab, as Ali Mahdi is concerned a grave next to Aideed awaits him. He has proven what he's worth. Mudulood is way better of with this man six feet under.

Anyways, did you felt insulted because I mentioned Aideed Laughing The general had mixed history, good as wel as bad sides.

Ina adeer some of these kids like abdiwahab and co. looma jawaabo, all they do is come throw a stone and run away. They never present anything noteworthy to debate about, it would be much better to get in the never-ending and pointless x.playa v. cilmile debates.

Warsame aka AFWEYNE's apologist,

As a child of the Afweyne inner circle raised on the bililiqo of state funds and corruptions courtesy of your Awowe Afweyne who stole power in the middle of the night like a housethief, I am not surprised at your defense of him.

After all, you lived off the largesse of the regime at the expense of millions of Somalis.

Muslim-man,

Hawa watoto ni watoto wa Barre. Lakini wanayo bahati mbaya kwa sababu Barre ame kimbia kutoka Somalia na maisha zawu ime mali zika 1991.
