DS, you are right. Many Somali cities were bombed by the Ethiopian airforce including CaabudWaaq.

Somali report of Ethiopian air attack.

On 24th May Mogadishu radio reported a Somali Defence Ministry announcement that the Abudwaq district in Ghel Gudut region had been attacked by a MiG-21 and a MiG-23 from Ethiopia that morning.

-------------------

Two people were killed and several wounded but high casualties were prevented due the quick deployment of the Somali airforce who repelled the enemy.

Financial Times:
"The Somali Defence Ministry has claimed that on Tuesday its forces repulsed an attempt by two Ethiopian MiG-21 aircraft to strafe and bomb the central Somali town of Abud-Wak."

XidigtaJSL, the Ethio-Somali war couldn't have been executed at a better time. In fact, the reason why we lost was due treachery of some of the world nations. The Arab States ensured Maxamed Siyaad that that he would receive financial backing if some nations suddenly decided to ally with Ethiopia. The European countries (Britain, et la) initally promised Somalia militiary aid in order to counter-act Soviet's influence but they too backed down at the end. The OAU countries who were quiet for so long decided to pass a sudden resolution which explicitly supported and upheld the Ethiopian Position. This came at a time when Somalia had already executed its first major offensive with lead to 90% of Somali Galbeed being captured.

In the end it all came down to Somalia versus Ethiopia who had practically the world's backing, both financially and econimically.

Nevertheless, even after the aftermath, Somalis as a whole never blamed Maxamed Siyaad for the defeat. You can read former Danjire Maxamed Cusmaan Cumar's book "The Road to Zero" where he mentions that despite the nation's defeat, Somalis considered it a legitimate war where every Somali would have sacrificed his live for it.

So Maroxaar are celebrating the day they came into being when their old Doofaar Afweyne came to power??

You are celebrating what?? the day you became men and equal to others just because Afweyne regime hand fed you and created a state welfare for the unemeployed Maroxaar camel drivers??

Well that day is over little piglets and your Papa Doofaar died wearing nothing but a stinking nigis in his arse in Nigeria, now you should celebrate the fact that after 15 years (1993-12007) of been Cayr wife.. at last Ethopia freed you from that unholly wedlock..

If you thought you grew a kintir in 1969..that kintir has been amputitaed and mutilated ..Maro Xaar boys.

[quote="Luq_Ganane"]Warsame,

Luq, there were over 21,000 Cubans fighting on the side of Ethiopia. In fact, these Cubans were airlifted by the Ethiopian airlines from Angola and their home country to Ethiopia. Ethiopian airlines had to cancel all their flights for 6 months so that they facilitate these transportation. After Russia was expelled from Somalia due their inclination towards Ethiopia, they immediately launched a huge air and sealift of equipment and personnel to Ethiopia which consisted of two billion dollars worth of Soviet tanks, artillery, and modern jets.

Somalis during the campaign killed around 20,000, 2,000 of them were Cubans with thousands captured. I do not know about Yemens.

In the 1976 October parade where many African heads were present, dozen Somali-driven fighter aircrafts were demonstrated in front of them. This was at a time when most African countries used to hire foreign (white) mercenaries to fly their aircrafts. When the Somali fighter aircrafts landed and the skinnies started removing their helmets, a shock went through the African leaders. The Burundi president at that time, asked Jaale Maxamed Siyaad to send a Somali training battalion to Burundi to train the National Army of Burundi to which Maxamed Siyaad (RH) agreed. He also jokingly said to send a Somali liberation airforce to free South Africa from the apartheid regime

May I add that the majority if not all of the pilots were Isaaq, heck even Afweyne's personal pilot who flew him around the world was Isaaq, his personal doctor was Isaaq, some of his closest advisers were, too, the old dictator trusted Isaaqs more than he trusted his own Darod

I've met many Xawaadle dudes who were pilots

even this Arab guy whose abti is Xawaadle...had a funny story about the Ogaden War

he got captured with an Ethiopian by Somali army and they started interrogating. The SNA officers were suprised this Arab guy knew Somali, but he protested that he was Somali and the Ethiopian guy also was speaking Somali too

but then when they asked confidential questions, the Somali-Arab dude answered all of it and the SNA Officers to their embarrassment found out he was one of their own...The Ethiopian couldn't answer and was sent to jail
