...."the most fertile women walked with less pronounced hip movements. They also kept their knees closer together as they moved. "

The sight of a woman's sashaying hips may be enough to make a man go weak at the knees. But he may well be reading too much into her behaviour.
A study has shown that women walk with a wiggle when they are at their least fertile - and adopt a less "sexy" gait when they are more likely to conceive.
The apparently contradictory finding - which belies earlier evidence that women's behaviour becomes more alluring around the time of ovulation - amounts to an evolutionary con-trick on men, scientists said yesterday.
This is because genuine signals of sexual availability, such as subtle changes in smell and facial expressions, can be detected only close up.
Men who pick up on these signs are likely to be close friends and acquaintances - and therefore more suitable fathers.
However, signals such as gait can be spotted at a distance by strangers who could be unsuitable mates.
Having a less-attractive walk around the time of ovulation therefore allows a woman to disguise her fertile period from undesirable men, it is suggested.
Dr Meghan Provost, who led the study at Queen's University, Ontario, said: "If women are trying to protect themselves from sexual assault at times of peak fertility it would make sense for them to advertise attractiveness on a broad scale when they are not fertile."
For her research, Dr Provost dressed female volunteers in suits covered with light markers and filmed them as they walked, using a computer to study their gait, New Scientist magazine reports today.
Researchers also looked at saliva samples to find out where each woman was in her menstrual cycle.
They discovered that the most fertile women walked with less pronounced hip movements. They also kept their knees closer together as they moved.
The least-fertile women, by contrast, had the most swinging gaits and the biggest "wiggles".
When the videos were shown to 40 male volunteers, they rated the bottom-wiggling walks as the most sexy.
Dr Provost, whose study is to be published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behaviour, said: "This was so surprising I replicated the with two more independent groups of men to make sure."
Several previous studies have suggested that a woman's behaviour changes around the time of ovulation to make her more attractive to men.
A recent American study, for instance, found that exotic dancers earn more tips when they are at their most fertile.
Dancers who stayed off the Pill netted an average of £34 an hour during their peak period of fertility - known as the "oestrus".
This compared with £17 during menstruation and £18 if they took the Pill and avoided the menstrual cycle altogether.
Other research has shown that women's body odour is at its "least intense and most attractive" when they are at their most fertile and that women are more likely to wear revealing outfits when sub-consciously looking to conceive.

wait a minute... since these studies are inclined with basic animal biology..i thought the female's sense of attractiveness is heightened during the peak of fertility..and that's usually when she's putting out stronger vibes so that she has a greater chances of "procreating". what of this "disguise"? unless of course the suggestion here is to imply that women don't have sex to procreat but to simply just have sex...with desirable men that is and later begets the gift of her wise selection, should it afford her with such results.. in that case i can firmly co-sign on the latter.
