mogadishu is derived from ''the seat of the king'' in old persian

berbera comes from the word berber (arabs thought of somalis as berbers?)

cabuudwaaq means place of worship (waaq just means god in old somali) Laughing

bosaso is a bastardization of bandar qasiim aka qasiim's town, some say it was the name of qasiim's favourite camel, he was a yemeni businessman

Not exactly, you cannot say Berbera denotes to place of Berbers. Because Berber is derived from Berbera (incomphrensible cries). I forgot who, but once Muslims captured Maghreb (North Africa), one of the commanders attempted to speak to the locals in Arabic but couldn't understand them. That is why he labeled them Berbers.

This is what i read a while back.

"Apart from the ancient Egyptian records, the only mention of pre-Islamic Somalia was that by the Greek geographers and travelers Herodotus, Strabo, Pliny, Ptolemy and cosmos Indicopleustas who visited the Red Sea coast between Barbaria and its people were Barbars. The name Berber was apparently a corruption of Barbar and, therefore, Barbaria must have been the original homeland of the North African Berbers."

Good one. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Jeffrey, look at Twisted's post. Non-Bantu East Africans were called "Barbars" to distinguish them from the Bantu East Africans ("Zanj"). It might have borne as a result of a geographical mix-up (relating to the North African Berbers) but the city's name is derived from this midieval designation of the Somalis.

Xaliimo Cadey was named after a woman who was a freedom fighter around Kismayo back in the days.

Kismaayo is a Bajuni word. Not Somali
