Ismahan and co?....disgrace?
How?.......These guys have been in the west since @ the tender age of todlers, they were chased out of their homes in somalia where it supposed to be "Muslims" and supposed to have the "SOMALI" culture, their fathers were probably killed because of the "SOMALI" culture and made to suffer because of the "SOMALI" culture. The "Gaalo" rescued them, brough them to America, gave them homes and money and Made them feel like humans again. Quite naturally what culture would attract them more "the somali culture" that they know or the "Madow culture they grew up on".
think about it.[/quote]
I came to the US at the age of 6, does that mean I have an excuse to adopt forget culturally something that is in opposition to my religion and the lowest of lows?
If the west provided, security and shelter to many Somalis, should that be an excuse for us to forget where we came from and become "Gaalofied". Do you see the Vietnamese, Chinese and even the Italians who migrated generations ago change lose their identity. Wa maya and if so, its a rarity.

What about the majority from exactly same background but are decent, law abiding. Rap thugs are minority.
11 year old boy born and brought up in london led Taraweex Ramadhan in my local.
I have seen hundreds of boys/girls born and brought up in the west and have better islamic manners than those in Somalia.
Some people who came to the west at the age of 23 like Ayan Hirsi are so lost.
Also where you were born and brought up will not be excuse in Youmal qiyamah.
You will be treated like one born in maka.

Re: Nomadic Statues???????????????????
most of those who lose their identity are those who live in ghettos and mainly black neighbourhood. From a very young age you get the the culture and become what the environment moulds you to be.
Also it depends with family values and childhood upbringing. when most somali youth come from broken home with mum to support every single need then they will want other people/ culture to fill in a void/ gap and they end up with madow culture.

Re: Nomadic Statues???????????????????
My madow friends especially those wayward alleged criminals always ask why Somalis want to be like them and not do their own thing.
Lacag,
Thats were you got it wrong. I treat everyone like a potential criminal.
Ismahan,
I am deeply involved in the African American community. As a Black man, I share the same concerns in my "community". On many occasions, I have shared my experience as a black man in a white man's world.
I can safely say I am more involved in the African American community than the somali one.

Re: Nomadic Statues???????????????????
Ismahan, what positive culture do these kids know about somalia?.....Look at the state we are in right now because of our culture?. How can they "forget where they come from" when it's the exact thing that caused them some of their families and chased them out of their homes. They have absolutely every right to adobt any culture they can relate to until we get our shid together.
"If the west provided, security and shelter to many Somalis, should that be an excuse for us to forget where we came from and become "Gaalofied"."
Why not, after all the "Gaalo" acted on what muslims around the world shouldve done for us, they gave us right to live with them, right to worship and practise our religion and a million more things, so you tell me, what culture has done more things from them and why would they seek to act and be of that culture.
"Do you see the Vietnamese, Chinese and even the Italians who migrated generations ago change lose their identity"
As matter of fact, non of my asain friends speak their native tongue, they all have American names and assimilated into the mainstream culture. Some of them are budhist and celebrate chrismas, easter and all christain holidays.
Aniga, I am not advocating people to seek other cultures, but I understand why they do it when they do it.
and it all revolves around our backward ways, truth to be told.

Lacag,
Somali kids are naive.
So explain to me how Somalis are different if they live in the same conditions and areas as Madow people.
What do u expect of kids raised in the projects on xaram welfare money and absentee fathers ?

Re: Nomadic Statues???????????????????
Advo,
I respectfully disagree with you. You are justifying the actions and adoptations of these youth to the negativism of the western societey for the mere reasoning being they they need to do it until they get their act together. In that case, you could very well be indirectly advocating for changes of culture. Which in return, effects religious practices, inthe sense of how our culture is very much influenced by religion. Somalis did fail each other in their homes, there is no denying that, however, that should not give reasons or excuses for Somalis to lose their identities. We are people with culture and strong deen, how about utilizing that to give us strength and deal with rough and difficult situations. Instead, of falling victim to an already some group of people who have no deen iyo dhaqan and have no clue to the where abouts to trace that.
