Beauty Horrors
Ok, people...let's share your beauty horrors.
Here's my story....
The other day while I was walking up and down the high street during my lunch hour, I decided to venture out into a swanky little nail saloon. I don't know what, but something pulled me in. I only had 30 minutes left of my lunch hour and thought what the hell, those women look like they're enjoying their manicures, I might as well get one. So I went in and though it looked absolutely fabulous, I was immediately offered a drink and a seat. Next, my nails were enjoying a good old soak and I was busy daydreaming and staring at Usher on the big plasma screen.
And then out of nowhere came this piercing pain. Quickly turning back to look at my nails, I noticed the little indhayar woman was mercilessly hacking away at my cuticles, my fingers were bleeding and I felt like screaming. But I couldn't, I didn't want to look like an idiot. So, I sat there, listened to her chatting away in her native tongue to her colleagues.
Then she quickly finished off my treatment with a single coat of nail polish and before I knew it, I was sitting with my hands underneath a little dryer and thinking to myself, this better look good tomorrow and wishing I had spent my time reading my silly book instead.
Anyway, it didn't look better the next day or the day after that, my cuticles started peeling and looked swollen. Now they're starting to look better after thorough moisturising but I'm thinking of getting them done again. Properly this time.

Re: Beauty Horrors
well, i dont go to nail salons or hair salons, because i dont see the need in payin for temporary pleasure, but i did go a # of 4 times. 2 to get my hair done, 1 of which i was forced by my cousins. the other one was my cousins weddin so i got my nails done, but will never do again. gosh i felt trapped N couldn't wait to take them off. N last but not least back in april i decided to get my eyebrows done professionally thinkin i'll pay $8 dollars this time N from now on i'll just cut them before they get longer, but no that did not work N i swear i regret it. i would rather use my own twizer then to get a wax. it felt weird walle
N i ended up gettin furuuruc all over my right eye brow. i dont know if i was allergic or not. but thank god they're gone now cuz it took me a while to get rid of them. but at least i learned the secret of doin eye-brows

Go demand your money back eyes-only! walaahi if that happened to me i'd make sure i got my money back! Things like that has never happened to me, i get my nails done once/twice a month depending on when they need to be re-touched. Eyebrow plucking is essential (well atleast to me) so is getting your hair done, i avoid disasters like that by being a regular at one salon only, where i know they'll always do a good job.

Eyes-Only,
Maya, abaayo....never had a "beauty horror" and I can't imagine myself experiencing such a nerve-wrecking experience.

Eyes- dont ever go back to that salon girl...and next time someones doing your naisl and it hurts...dang girl say somethign...thats not supposed to happen!
Suga: babe dont EVER wax your brows again, if they make a mistake it can be premanent (the more you wax the more ur hair wont grow on certain spots andu cant really shape em the way u want)....get them threaded, it actually lasts longer as well and u wont have those bumbs...and put some cream on them after it gets threaded so that u dont get the redness.
as for beauty disaster!
Oh I have the worst. Imagine, prome night hair disaster. My friend and I decided to go get our hair done together...she and I have pretty much the same type of hair and why she decided to go to a black lady I dont know. So we go to the salon and the lady washes my hair and blows dries it and started styling it...she was using those hot metal curlers that completely damage your hair. She gave me curls alright....the size of montana with frizz...I looked at the mirror and I was like WTF did u do to my hair? it looks dry, damanged and untammed...and she just rolled her eyes at me and said it looks fine...I was like hell no it doesn...my hair would look better when I stepped outa the shower. I didnt even pay her and I left. I went to my friends place...got her her hot rollers washed my hair and put that one...it look 100000 times better. Imagine that..on PROM night...i was soo pissed at my friend for booking her...

Re: Beauty Horrors
eyes-only:- You have a right to complain sis, that's really poor service. And like Madd_Scientist & ms.nalia said, you should demand your money back.
I don't like going to hair & nail salons. I only went there twice, and it wasn't by choice. Anyhow, this one time, I went to the hairdressers, and this woman was cutting my hair. I specifically told her I just want it cut shoulder length. She kept saying I think you're hair would look really nice in a bob - I told her I don't want a bob. Just cut it shoulder length. Then, she's like you've got beautiful hair, why do u want to cut it? I'm thinking what is wrong with this woman. In the end, she cut a huge junk of my hair, just under my ear. I was really angry, so I complained to her manager, and walked out without paying for it. From then on I just buy all the hair & nail products, and do my own hair & nails in the comfort of my own home.

Re: Beauty Horrors
I went to this salon once, I mean all Somalis go there
, and this Somali lady thought that she could help me out by offering to do my hair instead of the owner. I thought it was really nice of her and I was glad to have someone of the same ethnicity doing my hair for me. At first, she starts combing my hair out and literally it felt like she was ripping it out. She was pulling on it so hard that my eyes were starting to water. Then she put on some conditioning lotion (at least that's what she called it) on to my hair and it started to feel better. The owner came along and wanted to check out what was going on and she was speaking in some weird language to this Somali lady and I was quite surprised. Anyway she moves me on to this other area and starts to clean my hair. As she's cleaning it she starts speaking in Somali to me and telling me how beautiful my hair is. After that she moves me on to the drying area for about twenty minutes and I hated it because that big thing just goes on your head and makes your eyes feel like they're bleeding. Finally, as my hair is all dried up she brings these big scissors and asks me how much I want cut so I told her an inch. I look in the mirror directly in front of me and she's holding this big chunk of hair and is about to cut it. I say nicely to her, ''Habaryar that's too much, make it smaller''. I show her how much I want cut with my hands and silly me I close my eyes because the drier made me feel really groggy. 10 minutes later I open my eyes and my hair is as short as Rihanna's. I was devastated.
I went home and my brother was literally laughing at me. I had to find an alternative to help my hair fit my hijab properly because it made it look so weird in the back.
This happened to me this time last summer mind you. Alhamdulilah it grew a lot it reaches my neck now.
I've learned my lesson. I will never fall asleep in a salon every again.
