Hello brothers and sisters
I think our traditional social organizations that currently exist need to be examined for its impact on our social and political dynamics.
It's essential to understand the social conditions that perpetuate violence, division and hatred. What are their causes and have we made sustainable institutions that can provide permanent solutions, at least, to our current societal problems.
It's hard to fully understand but sociologists say that social conditions that regulate our BEHAVIOR orginate from two sources: (1) Social structure and (2) Culture.
Social structure is formed when ethnic or tribal groups interact over time. In other words, an enduring interaction as opposed to fleeting one can be initiated. Therefore, as rational people we can make a difference if we maximize our enduring social interaction, which will then lead to perfect social relationship. And then a whole new thoughts and behavior emerges as to what we are or if we are ready for the challenges of 21st century. A simple example of how interaction can make a difference is like this; sodium and choloride are two entirely different chemical elements but when they both INTERACT , they form a new chemical compound, salt. The original elements are transformed and changed.
This basic illustration underscores the fundamental principle that the "the whole is not equal to the sum of its parts." In other words, individual rights and their access to education, work based on merit and respect for their unique ability and ideas is key to social progress. Thus, if our enduring social interaction is tailored this goal, we will then act in the common defense of our rights to freedom and inherited land and sea resources.
However, if the different Parts that form the Whole is not fully organized in an informal and task-oriented manner, then it will be hard to spawn a SOCIETY that are interdependent and loyal to one another. Because, this step would be another way to move our people from conflicting social organizations(tribal, factions) into a Society---social system where stability, order and predictability are the norm.
Once we create a Society or social system by uniting the independent parts and transforming it into an Interdependent Network through the good deeds that our religion enjoins us, then we can live a better life and develop skills essential to our survival and own posterity.
To do that is to create Social Institutions. Institutions are social arrangements that guide our behaviors and provide dynamic solutions of our societal problems. Common among them is Education, family, the economy, science and medicine. And they are all essential and guided by the CULTURE of a given society. For instance, in order to understand the physical and social realms of nature, we need the institution of science; for the maintenance of order and distribution of power and wealth, we need the institution of polity, for the production and distribution of goods and services, we need the institution of economy, etc.
Institutions are made by people and they can be changed if they are not serving our Society. Where they are outmoded and inefficient, our society must undertake all its power to tranforming them. Defending and promoting tribal institutions and culture are like a dogfight no one can win.
