Well if we discuss this from an islamic point of view then one must conclude that secularism is apostasy. Why? Because the secularist challenges the Jugdement of Allah, while Allah said; ' The command (or the judgement) is for none but Allâh ' Surah 12 aya 40

The qurán clearly indicates that a law other than sharia leeds to kufr ' and whosoever does not judge by what Allâh has revealed, such are the Kâfirûn' surah 5 verse 44. We can't replace a judgement provided by Allah with one provided by other than Allah without leaving the fold of islam.

This is the islamic point of view on secularism, communism etc .

As for rules invented by mankind that doesn't challenge the islamic regulations, such as stopping for the red light etc, then there's nothing wrong with that. As long as people don't replace the sharia.
