DAHAR, Somalia Mar 13 2012 (Garowe Online) – Puntland Health Minister Dr. Ali Abdullahi Warsame and his delegation visited Dahar, the capital city of Haylan region, Radio Garowe reports.

The minister and his delegation were warmly received by a huge number of Dahar residents that included clan leaders, district authorities and different civil society groups.

Dr. Warsame and his delegation of doctors and government officials visited the Dahar district authority headquarters and the Dahar general hospital where he met with the hospital’s doctors. Dr. Warsame then held a press conference where he gave a lengthy statement.

Before Dr. Warsame spoke to the audience Director of the Dahar general hospital Dr. Salaad Hasan Shire gave a brief statement. Dr. Shire thanked the minister and his delegation for visiting Dahar and welcomed their efforts to help fortify Dahar health facilities.

Dr. Warsame thanked the Dahar residents and the Dahar hospital staff for their warm welcome and began by reminding the people of Haylan that they are Puntlanders. “You are Puntland citizens and you are entitled to same rights as any Puntlander and I’m here on behalf of the Puntland government to show residents in remote cities that the Puntland government is concerned about supplies vital to every resident in every town and city in Puntland,” said Dr. Warsame.

The minister and his delegation brought a convoy of vehicles carrying medical supplies to the region. The minister announced that the Dahar hospital staff’s salary would be paid by the Ministry of Health and their staff would be added to the list of employees in the Ministry of Health.

The visit comes after the Puntland Ministry of Health announced that it would assist in the health necessities and build the capacity of health facilities in remote towns and cities in Puntland.
