we have different views of Melez Zanawi since we are not a united country any more, some people he out right oppress, whiles others he use for his own purposes.
The way I see it Melez Zanawi was looking out for his own interest, which was to divide Somalis so the former regime collapse, some of these Somalis served him well for that purpose. Today there isn't a powerful Somali regime anywhere on the peninsula, so Melez Zanawi would like to treat them all the same, so the Isaaq are not more powerful than the Majerten and the Marehan are not more powerful than their adversary etc etc etc. Both of his policies we rejected him as Marehan, we fought for the Kacaan and rejected him, after it collapsed we still continued to reject him.
Then these fanatics came in, and for a moment we accepted support from Melez Zanawi to put an end to those fanatics, the same support was given to Majerten and pretty much everyone else. The difference is when we crushed the fanatics we then refused to allow Ethiopia to influence our region in anywhere, this resulted in a bloody war between Melez Zanawi and SNF, we managed to repel him and he left us alone.
for a good while decade or so, we ruled Gedo, Lower Jubba and had check points all over Jubaland, we also had it good in Galgaduud.
Then the Fanatics came again, and once again we are forced to use Ethiopian support just like everyone else is doing. When Fanatics are defeated, I suspect Ethiopia will still be needed to be our friends, specially now that they have mega plans in Kenya, Jubaland should be a big player in all of this.
