USA/UK preparing to strike Syria, Russians talking back
Will the Russians do anything?
Re: USA/UK preparing to strike Syria, Russians talking back
The media and world governments should stop looking at Russia as a realistic threat. It's annoying. The U.S.S.R left us 22 years ago. They are useless. What is wrong with Obama? He always has to mention Russia. He doesn't know how to handle the Russians. Obama doesn't realize he is the President of the world's only superpower. You are not suppose to have a multilateral approach when you are the United States. You do, and they follow. Sometimes I am left in confusion when Russia flexes it's muscles and the United States feels the need to respond with concern.
Obama is the worst President the United States ever had. By far the worst. Bush was much better wallahi. He was a real President. Obama acts like he is the leader of Belgium or something.

Re: USA/UK preparing to strike Syria, Russians talking back
The US has had worst presidents than Obama. The funny thing is, vast majority of Americans do not want to be involved in any further wars. Obama was against the Iraq War in 2002 and he's definitely not sending ground troops anywhere. An airstrike isn't gonna do much in this conflict.Titanium wrote:The media and world governments should stop looking at Russia as a realistic threat. It's annoying. The U.S.S.R left us 22 years ago. Bush was pretty bad. He messed up 4% unemployment and a budget surplus. Iraq alone messed everything up.

FAH1223,
Americans need to understand their opinions don't matter when you are the world's only superpower. You have to go into war once in a while to show the world who is boss. The world has to fear you or your superpower status is in jeopardy. Not Iraq or Afghanistan type of wars but military interventions like in Libya are perfect. The Americans need to intervene in Syria for their own good. It is their duty but I am on Bashar al-Assad's side.
Obama was the worst when it came to international relations. International relations is as important as a nation's economy. America is not as feared as it once was. Obama's multilateral approach is troubling

Russia matters, a lot. The whole reason they are supporting him so much is because of all the important pipeline projects that either exist or will in Syria. Russia needs these deals with Iraqi Kurdistan, Syria, Iran and the Caucasus to not be fucked with so they can keep their grip around Europe's balls.

Lol America has had superpower status for over 60 years now and every conflict it engaged in has ranged from stalemates to unmitigated disasters. History is not about having the best army, it's about winning.
Re: USA/UK preparing to strike Syria, Russians talking back
No. Past experience (Iraq, Libya, etc) indicates Russia will do nothing. For their part, America will do nothing in Russia's adventures (Chechnya, Georgia, Dagestan, etc).FAH1223 wrote:Will the Russians do anything?

But how does the US know Assad used chemical weapons? The Russians have many people in Syria and within the government. The rebels probably used these weapons to get this desired outcome.Titanium wrote:FAH1223,

Whoever is behind the chemical attack, they're clever. They know Assad wouldn't use heavy mortars and artillery in the capital to prevent infrastructure damage. Chemical weapons are ideal for urban environments. They know he's all but won this war and so in a last ditch effort to prevent rebel annihilation they've provided an excuse, albeit dubious, for "intervention".FAH1223 wrote:But how does the US know Assad used chemical weapons? Re: USA/UK preparing to strike Syria, Russians talking back
Here's an alternative explanation:
http://www.spiegel.de/international/wor ... 18667.html
"According to a general in Syrian intelligence who fled to Jordan a few months ago, and who still has contacts within the regime, the Wednesday gas attack could also have a completely different motivation, having to do with the course of the civil war. "It happened for internal reasons. For weeks, the rebels have threatened Assad's home province of Latakia, where they have captured several villages," the general told SPIEGEL. "But many of the irregular fighters, which the government has used instead of the army, are Alawites from the region. Now they're going back to protect their villages." According to the general, the regime solved two problems with the gas attack, "holding the thinned out front around Damascus and strengthening the morale of the fanatics in their ranks."
This version is reinforced by the regime's explanations of the attack to its supporters. In Facebook groups -- like the News Network of the Syria Armed Forces -- which are the most important media war zone in Syria, an "important statement by the army and the armed forces" was issued under the banner of Bashar Assad: "Today we attacked a number of terrorist hideouts with heavy weapons. To protect the civilian population, chemical weapons were also used." This request was posted below the statement: "Bomb them even more severely, Mr. President, with chemicals and other things, because they don't deserve to live!" The Martyrs of the Homeland, also on Facebook, reported that "more than 500 were killed today in a cleansing operation." One of Assad's relatives wrote that Bashar should fire off even more chemical weapons, and a supporter from Latakia made the same request. After the massacre, militia fighters handed out sweets, a traditional way of celebrating joyous events in the Middle East, to pedestrians in the Mezze 86 neighborhood in the western part of Damascus, a stronghold of Alawite members of the security forces."
This is a three-page analysis, and is fairly comprehensive.
