Blizzard,

My point was ..you could still get that 'quality education' you keep rabbiting on about. Being poor was certainly no obstacle. Clearly the government back then recognised that need and provided students with scholarships so they can pursue their studies abroad. A lot of countries around the world do this...sending their brightest to foreign countries, it's not ceeb to benefit from others.

Somali govt didn't pay anything. Those scholarships were either given by the schools or tuition was paid for by the US, USSR, Italian, and other governments

Do you have any proof this was the case? I have relatives that went to schools in the U.S on scholarship from the Somali government of that time.

My uncle went to the University of Michigan. My friend's dad at Arizona State. I asked my uncle a while ago how the Somali govt can afford to send hundreds of students to schools around the world and he laughed at me. His tuition, his room, his food was all paid for by this scholarship. Before the Ogaden War, it was the Russians. After the Ogaden War, it was the Americans who provided the funding. Puntland Pres. Abdiweli, Farmaajo, the Samatar brothers from Awdal... all these people who got American and Italian and German and USSR degrees well before the war got it through foreign scholarships and funding.

Nothing wrong with it though. Somalia was afterall a broke but strategic African country

I would definitely be on the side of good old England with all her glory. i don't think Somalia would have given me this prestige education and opportunities even if it had peace.

There's nothing called free, England has more to gain by giving u a student loan with interest than you do.

I'd link to think I would fight on the side that isn't the aggressor.

Soldiery is for the simple man. I watched a documentary about Brits who refused conscription during the World War and how they were ostracized from the community. It wasn't out of cowardice, most were professors, academics, thinkers etc who questioned the use of War and mass destruction just to propel a countrys dominance.
