Eritrea’s Afawerki: Zoomalia no longer exists
MOGADISHU (HOL) -The increasing number of regional states in Somalia have left the long anarchic horn of Africa nation fragmented and the country no longer exists in the continent, Eritrean president said.
The Eritrean strongman Isaias Afwerki who led the East African nation since 1993 says that the crisis in Somalia continues to disintegrate the country following the collapse of the central government in 1991.
“Somalia is completely a different story - It’s a problem of a nation that has disintegrated; it’s a question of a nation that has gone into internal and external crisis.” Mr. Afawerki said during an interview with a local news site.
“Somalia does not exist.”
In addition, the Eritrean leader took a swipe at the growing number of regional states and the breakaway northern Somalia republic of Somalia, saying that they were the source of the country’s breakdown.
“When you have one county divided, fragmented from within – its Somaliland, its Puntland, Its Benadirland its so many lands, but beyond that its fragmented into clans, into tribes, into warlordism – that’s very sad.” He said in the undated interview.
Hiiraan Online cannot determine the time the interview was taken, however president Afawerki said that crisis in Somalia has had a negative effect on the entire horn of Africa.
“The instability in Somalia affects the stability of the whole region – and that’s what we have witnesses in the last 20 years – we would like Somalia to revive, we would like this nation to come to normalcy again.” He noted.
Despite a relative stability in the country since the ouster of Islamist insurgents from the capital and surrounding regions, Somalia continues to face mounting political and security challenges that experts say continue to stand in the way of the country’s overall improvements.
The country’s security forces with the support of the strong-22000 African Union force is struggling to defeat fighters from the Al-Qaeda linked Al Shabab group which continues to wage a deadly guerrilla war across large parts of the horn of Africa nation.

He has a point about the division, all these so called something lands really does a great disservice to strong Somalia again. However things are improving on the ground and I am hopeful we will cross the bridge when the time comes. Afawerki said election won't take place for 4 decades in his country while some form of democracy exist in all of "Somalia". He can learn a thing or two from us.

The case of Somaliland and Somalias union is no differerent then the Eritrea and Ethiopia illegal union, in fact Somaliland was indepentdent even a few days, something his eritrea never was.
The real xaraamo regional governments are galmudug, jubbaland, and puntland nowadays.

actually former british somaliland was not indepedent those 4 days because 26 june 1960. the blue flag which was the flag of interim goverment of south somalia frm 1954 was rised in hargeysa in 26 june 1960 and the new nation which was born that day was called somali republic and not somaliland..

He is right about one thing and that is Somalidiid is the source of the country's breakdown. Federalism was introduce to Somalia to block Somalidiid from breaking from Somalia. Now they are just a Federal State just like the rest. I do believe eventually Federalism will work just fine for Somalia's situation. Somalis have rejected Dictatorship and Political as well as Military Power being centered in a single location.

I disagree with u, Isaaq small tribe subclan of dir life in the smallest deegaan (togdheer & waqooyi-galbeed) suffering from the drought can't breakdown Somalia, they can't secede after 27 years and they never secede.
Talking about breaking down a country, u need to ask the mooryaans down in the south who got very comfortable living chaotic life-style, no laws to govern them.

I totally agree with Eritrea president, Somalia is history.
Everyone should focus on his/her region they from.
Unitarian government will not work.
Federal government will not work.
The only solution is Balkanization system.

The fact is Somaliland is the role model of all those states of Somalia, they read Somaliland books and policies , none of them reads Mogadishu central government policies. Every region is attracted to Somaliland's 'self determination' or what you call 'separitism' ideology instead of seeking unionism driven strong central government. For that reason your intention to undermine Somaliland status by allowing multiple states will never work for you. Of course the donkey in Mogadishu can keep yelling 'Somalia is one' but deep down we all know the reality on the ground. One thing is for sure Mogadishu weak government are very happy to just be able to participate international begging forums to generate some aid money in the name of Somalis.knet wrote:He is right about one thing and that is Somalidiid is the source of the country's breakdown. You are wrong here, the name of that nation was State of Somaliland.
British Somaliland was indeed independent for 5 days.
