the arms embargo serves to, if unintentionally, all but offically balkanize ex italian somalia as the common govt of that so-called country based in xamar would be starved off the necessary force to unite the whole of konfuria (including bari and nugaal) under its sole sovereign control

but then as a somalilander i'm happy that konfuria wont be a threat to either us or ethiopia/kenya/djibouti since the BS soomaliweyn nonsense would be neutralized

The Federal government has does not have the will nor the capacity to fight Al-Shabab. They are completely uninstered. They already sold a bunch of light arms on the black market after the UN eased the arms embargo.

The reason the nation has broken into a number of independent states is because the Federal government has been picking sides in different clan conflicts, only exacerbating clan tensions. These clowns made war lords generals and haphazardly put a bunch of different clan militias to together and called it a national. It wasn't even long until rifts grew in this "National Army" and they started fighting each other. The Federal Government in Somalia is in no position to be trusted with anything, thats why all the donor nations direct their aid towards aid agencies rather than the Federal Government. They know this way atleast a portion of the money will make its way to the civillian in Somalia.

South Somalia will never be a threat to SL as long as SL is bordered by PL and Ethiopia. Somaliweyne died when the Hawiye murdered their neighbours and spent all their efforts hindering the progress of PL and Jubbaland. Some people say Somaliweyne is still alive but really is not. Tribe is more deeply entreched than it has ever been, we can see this since every maamul hates each other. Somaliweyne died in 1991, it took me longer than I am proud of to realise that.

There is hope for Somalia if all these maamuls get their own autonomy in the Republic of Somalia. As in they have the ability to govern and develop their regions without the interference by other tribes. If the violence of 1991-2016 didn't occur we could have been making progress towards abandoning qabiil not moving backwards.

I know I have said a lot of disgusting things about Hawiye lately but don't let that take away from what I have said. What I have said about Hawiye was intended to hurt GalmurianSlayer and Geeljire. I will stoop to their level if they take a dig a D-Block lol.

No dude, we don't want somalia being allowed weapons, the hutus will use it to attack darood regions and other innocent somali tribes like they did through the 1990s/2000s, we all know the first thing a hawiye president will do is to sell it to the hutus and galkaciyo, kismayo, garoew, afmadow, garbaharey etc. will get attacked. I heard a letter was written by somaliland, Jubbaland and puntland to the UN to not allow the government to buy weapons because we all know what will happen next. Seems like the letter worked, untill hutus can act presidential and get rid of the cuqdad and warmongering, we pray they are not allowed to buy weapons legally through international law. can you lot act presidential and rule the federation fairly and equitably? tribalism has returned and is worst then ever, its like 1990s in the minds of the hutus, nothing has changed.

I was against the idea for so long but today I have reached a stage where I keep changing my mind. PL is attached to the idea of a united Somalia and they have never abandonned it. They see themselves as the 'mother of government' in Somalia and think that the Somali Republic can still be salvaged. I think they are foolish sometimes since they helped Somalia so much and we haven't gotten very far. PL has helped helped create the Galmudug state and in 2006 they helped flush out the ICU from Adado and Dhusamareeb. Cabdullahi Yusuf even brought his army from PL and brought Ethiopians to Mogadishu to pacify the south, he was able to flush out the HG warlords thankfully. We could have come out of this state failure if Hawiye were actually on board but they are satisfied with the status quo. Today I think PL believe either go independent or the Federal Government has to introduce a system where the maamuls get their own autonomy. I would think the latter is very possible though. It is like independence except we are still in the republic. The government gets no say in the day to governance of these maamuls and cannot militarily intervene. But knowing what the Mogadishu is like you can't expect much from them so maybe PL should just go independent. PL could essentially have no ties with Hawiye this way.

PL needs to cut ties with Hawiye all together. These people do not see us as brothers after all we have done with them they continue to attack us. Most of the time I am just shocked when HG's repeatedly attack Gaalkacyo after PL housed them as displaced people in Gaalkacyo, and even more when then cry to Abgaal for help. These people have chosen time and time again to fight us and themselves instead of working together for our/their interests. Things can only get better if we part ways with Hawiye.

Hopefully we can do that without leaving the Republic.

Some tribes need Somalia more than others.

Hawiya tribe ,Don't need Somalia all they want to do is rule it.They are struggling at the moment but soon will be the master rulers.in other words Hawiya Don't need Somalia,Somalia needs Hawiya.

Darood can't afford to leave Somalia. The Darood are divided amongst the various players in the horn.Daroods need Somalia

Isaaq have already decided Somalia ain't for us.Somalia need Isaaq

Back to topic ,Weapons Ban is backward step and hurts Somaliland as much the Somali Goverment

Daroods have already carved up their own states, they do not require. Even the Daroods in the Ogaden are doing well, they have their own government, one that puts Mogadishu to shame.

How on earth is the weapons ban going to hurt Somaliland?

If you cannot contribute to this thread at all you shouldn't talk. Do not derail this thread, there is a healthy discussion taking place.

This is public forum and I have as much right to my opinion as you do to yours.

Let me spell it for you a weapon ban hurts those who cannot afford to buy weapons on the open market j.e Puntland/Juballand.You may get donated weapons but you will not be able to compete with the big boys.

Jubaland is a delicate position in which the regional authory reach is limited to miles around Kismayo even with foreign backing.

Puntland is struggling in Galcayo even though it's total war conflict with a subclan and are unable to completely control the city.

K5 Daroods are doing well  I disagree.Just a matter of time before it turns sour again.

NFD, say no more.

Khatumo.....

Darood need Somalia more than anybody else, this is a simple observation.
