This is the year, inshallah, when I finally lay the foundations of my Hijra to Somalia.
I will be travelling to the Nugaal later this year to establish an experimental farm.
I will be utilizing scientific methods and modern engineering principles which I will teach to locals.
The exact location of the farm will be determined by the quality of the soil and availability of potable water resources.
The farm will be mixed, animals and crops, with an emphasis on recycling.
Agroforestry will also be a key feature.
The first stage will involve surveying a wide area....testin soil and water quality to select the farm site.
Second stage will be to clear/ level land and drill boreholes.
Third stage involves tilling the soil and planting a mix of forage crops, vegetables/ fruits and trees.
Finally, the forth stage will be to stock the farm with a number of livestock....preferably a mix of local and improved breeds.
I will be looking to invest between $15,000-$20,000 and after that hope to become self sustaining by selling hay/ sillage, fruits/ vegetables and dairy products.
