First footsteps in East Africa

Postby original dervish » Tue Jun 11, 2019 6:05 am

This is the year, inshallah, when I finally lay the foundations of my Hijra to Somalia.

I will be travelling to the Nugaal later this year to establish an experimental farm.
I will be utilizing scientific methods and modern engineering principles which I will teach to locals.

The exact location of the farm will be determined by the quality of the soil and availability of potable water resources.

The farm will be mixed, animals and crops, with an emphasis on recycling.
Agroforestry will also be a key feature.

The first stage will involve surveying a wide area....testin soil and water quality to select the farm site.

Second stage will be to clear/ level land and drill boreholes.

Third stage involves tilling the soil and planting a mix of forage crops, vegetables/ fruits and trees.

Finally, the forth stage will be to stock the farm with a number of livestock....preferably a mix of local and improved breeds.

I will be looking to invest between $15,000-$20,000 and after that hope to become self sustaining by selling hay/ sillage, fruits/ vegetables and dairy products.

I would just say I have carried out years of research, studying scientific papers and reading appropriate case studies.

Although there are numerous farming ventures across the region the vast majority don't rise beyond subsistence level.

There are a few modern farms being established but these are few and far between.

The recent rains have resulted in the entire north becoming green, proving that the land has enormous potential.

From what I heard Slovenia is a pretty welcoming place for foreigners.....I think they evdn elected a black African into political office.

Somalia is where the heart is......and more importantly the land.

It is where the heart is. Maybe one day I would visit Somalia. I have never been there.

It's worth a visit.......even if it's just to connect with your origins.
PS a lot of diaspora females find it a bit suffocating.

Gabiley is nice place...but my home is in the Nugaal valley.

Furthermore, and most importantly land is plentiful.
I will be completing a land survey carrying oùt soil and water analyses to find the best location to farm.

Looks like the depressed and marijuana addict Khalid uunsi deleted my comments but good idea to farm the land.
