Is there anything on the conversion of our people to Islam and when it took place? Anything substantial that is.

It's such a shame that we never recorded our history because so much of it is now lost in time and unknown to us. I'm also curious about our relationship with neighbouring Abyssinia, considering they were the dominant power in East Africa. Did they colonise us or were we left to ourselves? So much is unknown..

There's nothing on the conversions, but definitely before the 9th Century as "In the late 9th century, Al-Yaqubi wrote that Muslims were living along the northern Somali seaboard."

We will never know. But Somalis were probably a mixture of Christians and Waaqists, we can discern that much as some Christian concepts are still embedded in Somali culture, whilst Waaq is found in the name of both subclans and towns indicating the pagan connection.

We have never kept any records, the most prudent move might well be sifting through written histories of our neighbours, namely the Ethiopians (if they have kept any records, I do not know), and try to find if they ever written about Somalis. Its very sad.

The lack of evidence of any significant settled population proves that our people lived much the same way over the last few thousand years.
