How do we get rid of this pesky UN arms embargo?

Postby ReturnOfMariixmaan » Thu Oct 31, 2019 5:48 pm

The UK and France are holding us back:

This goes beyond UDP/Wadajir/Himilo Qaran or N&N. What strategies do we use to fight the UN arms embargo? It's used to keep us weak and divided. Suggestions and ideas are welcomed

one veto from one of the big five is all we need really. the meeting is to renew the embargo, not to lift it

Definitely China or Russia. Probably Russia, as they'll want to sell us arms and train our boys. The West prefers to keep us weak and divided! The UK to secure her interests in Kenya so a strong Somalia won't threat Kenya.

Waxuush baan nahey, hadii cunaqabeynta nagala qaado, it will not be long before we go ape on each other like we did back in the 90's. Marka regardless of the West's motives for maintaining the arms embargo, waa inaa u mahad celinaa for saving us from our worst enemies, ourselves, and not Kenya or Ethiopia as some, like the op, would have us believe .

It is for a good reason. It should stay banned.

Better management and accountability. Weapons don’t win wars, leadership makes the difference

Somalia doesn’t need nor can it maintain heavy machinery. No body fights with tanks anymore.

We need heavy weapons to fight KDF. I guess nationalism isn't your forte

As long as the average income of a sna soldier is $200 dollars. Then the arms embargo will be still in place. Give the soldiers a good living wage a minimum of $500 per month. You will then find soldiers that will be honest and protect their paychecks and won't commit crimes/leave their posts or even answer to qabil wars.

Sort out the economy first then let's think about heavy weapons. If given heavy weapons now they would probably sell it to al shabaab.

Anti tank weapons and shoulder surface to air missiles are way more cost effective than tanks and aircraft.

Lol and why would Somalia army fight KDF?

For all the air bombardments of Gedo. Kenya is a strategic enemy. They are creating instability in our regions and targeting our telecomm masts cutting off nearly 400k ppl in Gedo from receiving mobile money critical to their survival. Interfering in our domestic politics in Jubbaland and disrespecting our sovereignity as a nation by illegally entering our airspace? There's a lot of reasons why we should attack KDF. But I hear you

I wouldn’t advocate for the arms embargo to be lifted unless the necessary infrastructure and protocol is in place. For instance if the arms embargo was lifted today the only region the fgs has full control over is an area that could be hostile to many other regions thus giving them an undue advantage in terms of armaments. When the number of saldhigs and institutions are increased in the different regions is when the arms embargo can be discussed. We don’t need advanced weaponry falling into the wrong hands again.
