Hoping for a White Eid???

Postby Kramer » Mon Oct 31, 2005 10:30 pm

Its colorful outside, leaves scattered all over, wind blowing across, with cloudy skies. No signs of snow, the odds are better for showers of rain. For the past ten years, Eid use to be on messy, white freezing temperatures. Not to mention, the traffic jam, luck of parking at the convention center in downtown Minneapolis.
But this Eid is different, Ramadan come a month earlier, with temperature as high as 70 degree. It seems that this Eid which is suppose to be on Wensday, the weather is a whooping 65 degrees. Clear, dry and warm. No shivering or clutching jaws. No runny nose or crunchy ears. No picking up your grand mom on the shoulders from the parking to the prayer hall so she doesn’t fall in slippery slide. So why will any one hope for a white Eid? As our Christian counter parts hope for a white Christmas, if they don’t have a snow on Christmas it will be very devastating for them. It seems that Christmas is related to snow. I wonder when Jesus was in Jerausalem if he ever think about having a Christmas for get about having a white-christmas. In fact charismas is invented in later centuries and its commercialize day then a religous day . Dozens of shops, malls and stores stuck bails of green from this holiday then any other. unlike Eid
But Eid is solely for religious purpose, except buying news clothes, shoes and preparing of some fancy food, there isn’t much other shopping to do. Although some of this kids nowadays make long lines at the barber shop, for some clean cut or line up, wear the latest street gear and head off for the Eid night party, one can only wonder if they even fasted for the whole month with sincere heart. I know I fell into the temptation too, but I’m starting to realize and hope this will be my last year if not go at all.

I'm dreaming, of a white Eid
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the sand dunes glisten
and children listen,
to desert winds that gently blow

I'm dreaming, of a white Eid
With every hadith that I write
Maybe you're days be merry and bright
And may Eid Mubarrak be nice and white.

Well if there was snow, you'd know it.
