Faithful,
I am glad you like your sheikh so much .....my malcamad teacher was such a terrorist its scary....he never explained the quran, never cared whether we understood what we were cramming and receiting in a language none of us understood, if we made a mistake be beat the crap out of us!!! every child used to shake when they saw him....and the Quran is not something you cannot teach to young children in that fashion.

Amat... Sis I'm disappointed Embarassed

Any concept having to do with becoming a better Muslim, anything at all, that has sound Islamic evidence, and does not contradict the Quran and Sunnah in anyway, is part of Islam. Don't be a sucker and give yourself a label 'Sufi by concept'. You are a Muslim by concept, not Sufi. Sufism has many great teachings, but don't be fooled by separating Islam and Sufism.

The deviant form of Sufism is not relevant in this case, Amat is talking about true Sufism, which is all about becoming more in touch with the spiritual side, becoming less materialistic, relying only on Allah... Consider it a component of Islam.

Sufi by concept doesn't exist. It's almost as confusing as a Jew coming up to me and saying 'I'm a Muslim by concept'... I mean Confused You may be a Muslim, who strongly believes in the true Sufism, any other label is useless and confusing.

Lionheart, you haven't been to a dugsi until you have to an aqwaan dugsi. When it comes to subac time, you will get your ass whooped for even saying a "mit" (hamza?) wrong, forget about about "shaqal".

Sufism has good concepts and many flaws and over all is not a bid'a or non bid'a issue, at least it wouldnt fall into that category for me, but a sufi sheik could well be called a muslim Delai lama in certain aspects.

Only Allah knows best!

Amat-Allah, u talked about bidca and everything we do is bidca, driving a car, eating with a fork etc...
There's two kind of bidca, religious bidca and other. If there's some new technology that will help my life and it's not connected to religion there's nothing wrong using that.
Then there's religious bidca, about that Prophet Muhammad (scws) said: "… and every innovation is misguidance and all misguidance is in the Hellfire."
The religion was completed during the time of a prophet (scws) and he was the best worshipper and feared Allah the most. We should follow how he (scws) made cibaada and dhikr. If we make up cibaada or dhikr from our head even if it sounds good, it's wrong and unacceptable. There's two conditions how our deeds are accepted:
1. Our niyah is pure
2. It's done in the way of Prophet (scws).

Sis, what do u think of them sufis who sit in the dark room all night shaking their heads chanting Allah Allah Allah... or the ones who go dance in the forest thinking that's cibaada?

Amat- macaanto what you on about? I told you, your scaring me with this notion
Stop labelling yourself with something the Quran or the Prophet (sws) has not called you. ‘I am Sufi’?? remember our lil chat on sects and how they call themselves names to distinguish themselves from Muslims?
You know as well I do that Sufism is aspect of Islam, by concept or not its not the religion all by itself dee
I know you’re attracted to this because of all the great imams being labelled as teachers of Sufism, but no where will you find them saying I am a sufi ( you know that Nawawi book you have read it, there is a section on it at the back)
Its aspect of Islam, spirituality, strengthen the bond with Allah, its purity of your character…
Hey remember them whirling dancers, we saw? What exactly did they achieve at the end of the night, where they in unity with their Creator or high on love for Him???
They made the connection with Allah too hard,( and you remember all the shirk they committed in that lil hour) just by sitting and doing dikir you’re showing your Love for Allah. Islam is simply waalalo we have the pillars of iman & Islam, fiq of our great imams n of course the Quran to give us all the guiding we need, and the best thing for your inner-self is Salat, once you’ve mastered your salat you’ve out done anything a Sufis master can teach you about you. No need for man made mediation at all to pure you.

I like that article QansaGabeyle put up on Hamza Yusef, ma’shallah that imam is so straight forward, oh I got this article of his you might like, doesn’t link with this thou, btw you can have that Al-Ghazail book too ( avn’t finished yet) but you can lend it. All last night I was trying to get ma head around this one philosophical analogy so be careful aight.

Anyhow you seem to like saying ‘by concept’ but that doesn’t shield you from the full meaning of the concept if you get what I mean.
Stop confusing yourself by getting all conceptual lol shout it out you’re a Muslim..!! not by concept but by belief and birth, its floating in your blood as every one of your cells submit to the All-Mighty Very Happy

ma'saalam
