I am by no means the first on this site to point out that Europe is far less religious today than it was during WWII. I suspect this has much to do with the role of religion in that war, and the fact the German and Italian churches all came out on the losing side. Here is an account of the role of the German and Italian churches in WWII:

Circumstances change. In today's political world, as a Kurd, Saladin might very well find himself in a nationalist battle fighting other Muslims on any or all of several different fronts. He might well have non-Muslim allies...... This is not the world that spawned the crusades.

Why do you continue to support people with only murder in their hearts and minds?
I don't think the quote applies to groups such as Al Shabab. The casualties that a group such as Al Shabab can cause in 100 years would be a miniscule compared to the casualties depleted uranium will cause* in Iraq in 10 years. This is where the manipulation of public opinion comes handy. There are silent murderers out there whose casualties are enormous, but the public would only pay attention to what they are fed.

So, WW2 was basically about a conflict between Christians and Jews? According to Wikipedia, it wasn't about religion:
The main causes of World War II were nationalistic tensions, unresolved issues, and resentments resulting from the World War I and the interwar period in Europe, plus the effects of the Great Depression in the 1930s.

The culmination of events that led to the outbreak of war are generally understood to be the 1939 invasion of Poland by Germany and Soviet Russia and the 1937 invasion of the Republic of China by the Empire of Japan.

These military aggressions were the result of decisions made by the authoritarian ruling Nazi elite in Germany and by the leadership of the Kwantung Army in Japan. World War II started after these aggressive actions were met with an official declaration of war and/or armed resistance.

In the link above, not once is the word religion mentioned. Furthermore, many people don't agree on how terrible the Holocaust was or even if it actually happened.
