That's the mistake made by many back in the day. North Somalia isn't desert, Arabia is desert. North Somalia is savannah shrub, its highly fertile, it just takes a lot of work and my ancestors were impatient and a bit lazy.

And you can't compare North Somalia to Namibia -- that place is too harsh for anything to survive, not to mention it lacks key port placements -- who the hell travels to the South Atlantic in Africa? South Africa does its trade on the Indian side of the ocean.

There is no better port placement than Northeast Somalia and the land is tamable.
