Welcome to the Congo!’ message angers Brazil

Postby Kramer » Sun Jul 08, 2007 3:23 am

SAO PAULO, Brazil - In a joke that made Brazilians cringe and forced the U.S. Olympic Committee to apologize, a USOC worker scrawled “Welcome to the Congo!” on a board in the organization’s Rio de Janeiro media center for the Pan American Games.

The USOC apologized to Brazil after one of its employees on Friday jokingly compared South America's largest nation to the Congo, making headlines and prompting outrage from local politicia

man! this Brazillians must be stupid --look how they hate Africa --one half of them are Africans --what is wrong with being compared to Congo ---I bet they will be happy if they were compared to France or Germany!

Brazil is way more developed than the congo will ever be.
However, getting offended by it, is just unnecessary.
