Why is some parts of Somali history neglected

Postby Warsame101 » Tue Jul 17, 2007 5:02 pm

For instance, the history of the Bimaal Dir warriors. These warriors rose up whilst the rest of Hawiye were confusingly throwing the Hitler sign as if it was a greeting sign. Everytime an Italian colony passed by, they would stand in rows at the sidelines and show the Hitler salute in intervals.

The Bimaal warriors rebelled after the Italians forbade them from exporting and importing slaves. They were a great fan and heavily employed a guerrilla warfare-like approach in attacking the Italians.

History is written by those who are intent on exploiting it. The Biyamaal are mostly farmers, their position in society is marginalized, who will speak for them?

Excellent point. The clans in power will always bring forth the strong points of their history as reason and justification of their power.

Koronto, I say lack of education and written recordings is to blame.

For instance, the historical phase of India began with the enlightened and highly educated Muslim conquerors who were India's first historians.

Who said it was neglected? The Biyamaal history is written down and their place in Somali history will never be forgotten.

Reer Jannow waa jid galee
Reer Jaxiimow iska jooga

that is the words they used to taunt those Somalis who preferred a false peace to a campaign of Jihaad liberation.

Dhulbahante and Biyamaal have a special place in Somali history as two clans who sacrificed blood and treasure in order to ensure that Somalis would never be slaves.

For an account of Biyamaal resistance by a Somali read Taariikhda Daraawiishta by Dhulbahante Historian Sheekh Jaamac Cumar Ciise.

A more comprehensive account can be found in a book by Lee Cassanelli, an American historian at the University of Pennsylvania.

Cilmiile, yes, Dhulbahante has sacrified blood to resist against the colonials, but they were not the only one and hence why I think that many are forgotten.

The Degoodiya who were warriors that fought against the colonialists. The Galti Mareexaan from Nugaal who went all the way to Jubbaland to protect and safeguard it.. The Reer Xassan who guarded the Mudug borders from the advancing Ethiopian army.

Most Somalis were involved in the Jihaad in some capacity or the other. Biyamaal and Dhulbahante staked everything on total War against infidel penetration of their country. And suffered horrific losses in the effort.

The blood of northern Somalia turned was turned Crimson because it was consecrated with the blood of the Dhulbahante.

Doofaarka gaalka kuwii dilay wixii raacay
Maaraha digleeyiyo kuwii duubcad wada qaatay
Digrigiyo shareecada kuwii diirka ka caddeeyey

Biyamaal were waging ferocious Jihaad and inventive Jihaad in the south. Such as the time they blew up the dykes holding Water near the river and drowned an Entire Italian force.

Bimaal were concentrated in Banadir and the Shabellas. They never set foot inside Jubbaland.
