mansha allah..it's good to see sisters wearing their hijab. those of you who started wearing it..keep it up walal. may allah reward you for it.

i wear cabaayad and scarf. i've always wore scarf n skirt, but i started wearing cabaayads bout 2/3 years ago. After joining the islamic society in uni, i thought why not...i mean people can see your muslim anywayz, coz you wear a scarf..might as well have the full islamic dress.

nowadays, i feel kinda odd if i got out without my cabaayad, coz im soo used it.
insha allah one day i would consider wearing the full jilbaab, but i don't think it's quite practical in this country. unless you stay at home.

Asalama Alaikum Waramatulahi Wabarakatuhu.

Intersting topic...

i used to wear the abaya and hijab but then as i gained more knowledge i found out that the proper covering was the jilbab as it covers from your head til your toe, the abaya is not the correct covering as it reveals your figure, but mashallah that sisters are comitting to wear the abaya seeing as how that is the first step towords the jilbab.
So i stopped wearing the abaya (now i wear it under my jilbab)
And yes i wear the niqab and gloves alhamduliah.

Asalama Alaikum

W/Salaam Smile !

Hmmm.. Lets get one thing straight, many people use different terms unfortunatly.
I know the Somali community use the word cabayad for the full loose gown but the Asian community use the term Bukra and I know a few Afgan and other Asian's who use the term Jilbab.. So thats 3 different terms to mean 1 thing. It can be confusing. These are all correct terms btw. Smile & I will elaborate on the Somali terms only InshaAllah--

The Cabayad;
For most people;
http://www.jahida.com/abayas/index.php/cPath/65_25
This is a loose all in one outfit, some might call it a dress. It is meant to cover you from top to bottom, hopefull with long sleeves and loose all round.

The Jilbab;
In the Somali community it is this http://www.almoultazimoun.com/images/ji ... ewils2.jpg
You can also get half jilbaab's which only come up to your waist and have no arms and if often accomplained in a two piece so with this comes a long loose skirt, Some people often say is the correct hijaab!--> http://www.jahida.com/images/khi01.jpg
(The full Jilbab is sometimes complimented with the Niqab/Veil.)

Hijaab;
Now the Hijaab has many meanings aswell, some use it as 'just' a head cover (like a helmet?Unfortunatly)..Others use it to mean the full code and covering of the head and bossoms and covered, some like I've mentioned before Somalis call the half jilbab a proper hijab.
There is also a term in the Somali comunity called a 'Qamar' which is the basic headscarf..
http://www.thehijabshop.com/press/image ... JAB_02.jpg

Niqab/Veil;
Full face covering but only eyes showing..
http://www.mybindi.com/lifestyle/images ... /niqab.jpg
Some sisters also wear gloves and make sure there feet aren't showing by either having the jilbab extremly long to the floor or by wearing shoes that do not shoe thier feet.

Bukra;
This is a term as I've mentioned may vary from country to country whereas some don't have this. Also this is one which involves the Niqab..This covers everything, even the face! It is a slight sheet or thin material to cover the face entirely.
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/126/3827 ... cf1b_m.jpg
Some might say this is a layered Niqab.

Which is possible because it is the same like;
http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi ... /img/2.jpg

CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG.. Smile I ENJOYED THAT!

Ohh yeh I wear the cabayad and a head scarf/qamar Very Happy

As for the debate around wether the cabayad is correct or not, I say it is exceptable. But some abuse the concept and the whole idea of it as always, but Allahu calum.

However, some might also say this is not right because when you lift up your arm the abayad sleeve will fall down and therefore flashing your skin (even though it may be an accident). My Answer to that is simple; you wear a long sleeve tight top underneath OR as I often do (because I get hot in my cabayad's I usually just wear short tops) is I buy loads of those sleeves, you can get them from all islamic stores or hijab places I suppose, it is just very long gloves that goes up to your elbows and you put them on and your abayad goes over it, so no skin will flash. You can so get it without the finger part.
......BUT this all depends on how your cabayad is made, like material wise or style, my ones are often have a button on the sleeve part like a Tshirt so that wont happpen.
Secondly, The whole feet thing, its best to get cabayad's made that are lonnnnnng, Lol..some of mine are literally sweeping the floor, its great because you cant see my feet. Smile !!

All these dilema's are gone with the full Jilbab which is one material and all in one, thats why some say the cabayad isnt correct.
But The Jilbaaabs look comfortable!!! InshaAllah one day.. Wink

salaam

i agree with lil cutie, the cabaya is the correct dress if it is worn like you should. the cabaya covers all the body parts and if you wear a hijab that comes over your chest then i don't see why it isn't correct. the cabaya obviously becomes incorect if you fold the arms or tuck it into your jeans like some people do, but if it's worn like i described above then i don't see it being a lot different from a jilbab

Salaam ^ Are you talking to me? Confused &What is daleel?Reference?

I think you misunderstood me, so walal calm down, I never said the Jilbab is not right or the cabayad is the only way, or insulted the Jilbab or cabayad in anyway. SubxnaAllah.
.. I said the Cabayad is expectable! It is not something you can say is totally unexpectable!!..I have never heard anyone say that.

Yes the Jilbab is PREFERABLE and extremly highly. & Like I said alot of issues of the cabayad are gone that may be experienced with the beautiful jilbab. There is a big debate concerning the definitions and styles.
If we are honest, the cabayad is better than wearing jeans, long tops and scarf, or skirts and tops and scarf..etc. That is why it is Expectable and that is why you can not say it is perhaps 'haram'/Forbiden or not absolutly correct.
So please do not patronize because yes I also have some knowledge(Alxamdulilah),& by the will of Allah I ask him to increase it for all of us. Smile Aameen.

Like I said Allahu Calum..
